Quite honestly, I believe that showing both the trailer at E3 and flooding the players with info later could be great.I kept telling pple SE will disappoint at E3 this year but everyone was so pumped up thinking SE would blow the world away with their 2.0 trailer.... but no.
SE missed their biggest chance at saving XIV. Exactly when all of the gaming industry has their eyes set on E3 for the biggest news on the year... SE decided to skip by saying "the most effective way to introduce version 2.0 to the world would be with a flood of new material rather than just a trickle."
How giving to world less = a flood, is beyond me. I can bet anything that their trailer was pure old stuff mixed with 2.0 CGI and since they saw that almost everyone was expecting something big, they choked.
Anyone else disappointed by this? Most pple that were turned off by XIV because of it's poor launch, will not be looking up by themselves for 2.0 news, nor will they give a crap about a website. E3 and a new gameplay trailer would have been the best chance of showing these pple that XIV will change. Pple that never played, know by now the bad reputation the industry has given XIV and they missed their chance to bring in these pple too.
Good Job SE! They should get an award at E3 for management of the year.
EDIT: Seems like we are not the only one thinking this is a bad move.

Doing a quick google search with Final Fantsy XIV E3 for the past 24h and the news of the cancelled trailer is all over the web. Lots of sites have posted the big news and i can tell you that most comments are very harsh and the rest don't even give a damn at all about the game. SE missed out their chance on this one....
Also most gaming websites confirm that 2.0's presence at E3 will be only through interviews.
However, in the event that only 1 is possible, I definitely root for "flooding the players with information later".
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
At gamescom over 200k people attend, they Flood the info like a baby bottles milk getting sucked dry. People get excited via Most gaming sites, People will see it and headlines such as " SE Floods the gate for 2.0" and people are going to wonder what this "flood is". Its a chain effect. not mention not as much competition at Gamescom, then at E3, and more likely to get a positive response from a failed launched game.
Also there less EU players so doing a big market in EU would get a lot of players for FFXIV 2.0 vs E3 where they lot's of stuff going on and most NA have in there mind FFXIV sucks so they wont even look at 2.0At gamescom over 200k people attend, they Flood the info like a baby bottles milk getting sucked dry. I'm sure they decided to hold back the trailer to not spoil the upcoming events of Dalamud and the 7th Umbral Era.
They are so respectful.
I am wondering if the move is partially strategic on their part. Although I am incredibly dissapointed I can see some logic in holding off. Although E3 is a major affair Guildwars 2 is set to launch late next month. Maybe they are thinking if Guildwars 2 is incredibly successful it could easily undo momentum they may gain by offering up too much during E3. Just a thought.
I hope they do give us some details though. I've been anxiously waiting for an update and the trailer. It's like a kid who was promised a PS3 for Christmas in September and waits with anticipation through the rest of the year. When Christmas finally comes he opens the box and finds a sweater. Thanks for the sweater SE.
I think a lot of the frustration in these threads stems from how long we've been waiting. "Wait till..." has been a mantra of the playerbase since Spring 2010.
Wait till Beta 3.
Wait till release.
Wait till the updates.
Yoshi-P just took over, wait till he's had a chance.
Wait till 1.18.
Wait till 1.19.
Wait till 2.0.
2.0 is a year away, wait till 1.20.
Wait till E3.
Wait till Gamescon.
Wait till TGS.

SE, eventually you plan to have 2.0 in your 2.0 campaign, right?
You do know, you don't have to wait, if the wait bothers you ^^ hehe.I think a lot of the frustration in these threads stems from how long we've been waiting. "Wait till..." has been a mantra of the playerbase since Spring 2010.
