You can always be like me and level your tanking classes through Trusts, FATEs, Hunts, and Beast Tribe quests. Leave the dungeon tanking to the go go go kids who have taken control of the modern MMO community. I prefer to do leveling dungeons exclusively as a DPS class so that when the party wipes because the tank bit off more than they could chew and/or the healer was incapable of coping, I can come out of it a hero after popping my healing cooldowns and polishing off the remnants. In the event that I fail, too, I don't feel the least bit of guilt because I'm usually one of the last to go, and the healer and/or tank have already claimed responsiblity. Players are under the mistaken impression that this style of play saves time in random instances, but in my experience, it feels like the walk of shame that follows every wipe adds more time than would have been saved. I understand wanting to go go go with premades, but I'll never understand why it's become the norm to behave like this in random dungeons. Seriously, the majority of players on these forums actively bash others simply for wanting to spend their leisure time in a leisurely manner. Some of us play games to unwind from the day's stresses. Many of us these days seem to play games to inject stress into stress-free lives.

Brace yourself, but DPS can very well be the cause of a wipe during a w2w pull. I've been part of many runs where the DPS is SO low that packs just aren't dying. So then you have a tank and healer who are both burning through CDs to try and manage an extended fight, which isn't the norm, and then eventually both sides run out and a wipe happens. Actual Tank and heal failures are just more obvious.

So here is the secret to that problem: You just bonzai 24/7 into everything and let the healer run around doing their two button dps rotation because warrior can regenerate half of it's physical body on demand. Unfortunately, we then have the poor dark knight...

I recommend just grabbing aggro on groups of mobs with your aoes, if the DPS want to live they will drag whatever mobs they have into your aoes and you will immediately have aggro on them. To be honest, I just do my thing and let the DPS figure out if they want to live or not by bringing things to me.

For bosses if they pull the boss I just run up and start my rotation, if they die cause it took me a second too long to get there, oh well, if not, then I have aggro and I position the boss and move on.

It's obnoxious when DPS run ahead, especially if I am waiting on my sprint CD, but I just let them decide if they want to live or die and keep doing my thing.

As a tank....if they pull...then you pull off them. If you die when you pulled them off and you used your CDs and defensives...it is literally everyone elses fault but your own. You did your job.

Once you get Raw Intuition...you WANT huge pulls. More mobs means big healing every 25 seconds. I'm talking you can do a Benediction on yourself way more frequently than any WHM could. You are the healer now.

Oh boy, prepare yourself for the DPS apologist gymnastics and '' Tanks bad and big ego '' arguments.

Funny how it's never the DPS at fault when they try and control what's happening on behalf of everyone else ( especially when so many of them pay zero attention to the state of the Healer and who's even there ).

I’m curious. How did we go from slow pulling by tank back in 2.0 (Stone Vigil) to w2w pulling like you are lactose intolerant and ate a bunch of ice cream in a dungeon?

It was like a community decision, as if all the tanks went “yup we do this now”.

Devs kinda helped as well. From HW on dungeons are just a hallway, no need to think about where to go, just go straight. Dungeons from HW onward started to become two mob packs then a wall then another two packs then boss. So much easier to pull. Aggro was a pain back in the 2.0 days, now it is super easy for tank to grab and hold aggo. I can pretty much hit one aoe and I got aggro on the mob pack till they die, in this state of the game if the tank has issues getting/keeping aggro it is 100% something wrong with that player. Also it is easier to handle mitigation rotation on big pulls then it is on smaller pulls. DPS have resources/buffs that they need to keep hitting mobs to keep up so its better to keep the dps moving and hitting mobs.
