Hit the mobs.As the title says I recently started playing WAR. This is also my first time playing a tank (i pretty much always play healer in any MMO) and i finally understand everyone's complaints about tanking in ffxiv. Like what am i supposed to do if the DPS continually run ahead to pull groups/bosses faster than i can get my character to move?

Not kidding, what if DPS run ahead? As a tank main, I started learning from zero and I ain't complaining about it. It's pretty simple to tag aggro by just using your AoE and then all mobs are focusing on you. If you want to practice your tanking rotation then trials and trusts are for you.
I don't understand the problem, if a DPS can get ahead of me, I consider that I've failed my duty as a tank... And if a DPS pulls for you, it's free mitigations, he can even put arm's lenght before you can monsters back...
And a DPS pulling before is not against ToS because pulling is not an action reserved to only tank, not getting agro on them is against ToS because that mean refusing to do your parts as "tanking"... If you wiped once or twice because of this DPS things can be seen the other way but if you don't wipe, you have no excuse to not move faster and collects all monsters before the DPS...
And to clarify things, passed 50, a tank not pulling to wall is wasting a party slot because a DPS could do the same thing with more efficiency on the damage side.


Rather than stopping to type and take a vote at the beginning of the dungeon, it lets me know quickly how they would like the pace of the run to go. It also makes me feel more confident that they know what they're doing. If it turns out they don't, well, we can adjust.
I'm not the fastest tank, but I will do my best to accommodate whatever party I end up in.
That's not the way to go.
You can actually get reported for doing that.
You don't fight bad behavior with more bad behavior.
Try to move faster and keep up with them. It sucks having to do this, especially if you're already moving at a quick pace and the DPS is doing 0 DPS while dragging more mobs along(a serious pet peeve of mine), but there's no fighting back or being petty about it. FFXIV is kind of like that sometimes sadly. Others may not play nicely with you but you have to play nicely with them otherwise there is the possibility of being reported.
At some point you'll get a dash(War gets theirs around level 60ish) that has two charges and you can use this to ensure you stay ahead, although I have seen DPS use their own dashes occasionally for the same purpose(often while dealing no damage).
I really miss when YPYT was acceptable... I know it's a bit toxic in its own regards, but it kept order. You've got four party members in a dungeon, and its a mess trying to figure out the pacing between them outside of wall to wall. I've DPS'd and Healed for tanks that single pull or are very slow in general. It's bothersome, it's not enjoyable but who am I to tell an unexperienced or undergeared tank what to do? Who am I to tell anyone else what to do really?
