Summoner pets?

I see other summoners around with different pets following them. All I have is the standard blue carbuncle that I got with Summon Carbuncle at level 2.
I've done all the summoner quests that I know of, but no pet upgrades. What have I missed?

→Alter the appearance of select summons. You must resummon the egi for the glamour to take effect. Command not applicable in PvP instances.

The glamour will be removed when no glamour is specified.

To add to the above, there is a quest at the arcanist guild you have to complete first to be able to change your carbuncle/egis.

Ok, so it's just an appearance thing. I thought I might be missing some DPS advantage. Thanks
