IMO I liked the Yagudo of FFXI more than the Ixtal of FFXIV as the "bird" beastmen race. Kinda miss the Quadav too.while i am apprehensive about the lack of a party shown thus far (not sure why they would need clives name in the UI if hes the only party member tho) the game looks solid.
If the older FFs are a loveletter to D&D, I am not opposed to this solo campaign.
also orcs?? in a mainline FF outside of xi? neat
Yeah I'm reserving judgment on the no party thing until we have something confirmed one way or the other because the very early looks at XIII and XV after it was rebranded to XV looked like they were solo campaigns, too. It's very possible we still have a party and they're just being coy about it again.while i am apprehensive about the lack of a party shown thus far (not sure why they would need clives name in the UI if hes the only party member tho) the game looks solid.

Very interested, but I don't have that kind of money to throw around for a console. I'll probably just watch streamers play it and/or youtube cutscene compilations when they are released.
The problem that often accompanies action RPGs is that you fall into a pattern of doge roll then attack with whatever your strongest weapon/combo is. If they are going to play up elemental weaknesses and such then great that might change things around or it might turn into spam whatever weakness the enemy has while also dodge rolling. Also I wouldn't count on an actual gritty dark story, because Yoshi-P is on the project he will likely say that any character that has any meaning must have at least 1 fake death because they might be popular so we can't have any stakes for the main party.
Short answer - no.
Long answer - NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
FF15 did me so wrong that I have no interest in 16 till it has come out for at least one full year. I'll wait for the Royal Edition when that comes out for like $5 in my store.
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.

I gotta be negative again. After the 2020 trailer, the main things I wanted to see to ease concerns were back-to-roots FF elements like a party system, vibrant fantasy locations and a battle system that can slow down enough for you to issue commands.
The 2022 trailer doubled down on being a very un-FF game with solo character action combat and western fantasy style drab brown barren lands. After FF XV was a very unconventional FF, they had a chance to realign the series with the signature JRPG style that the brand was built on. Instead they signalled its extinction.
Hardly any games these days are made to suit my taste, so the lack of competition means this thing is still on my radar by default. I just hope that somewhere inside it hides a nice JRPG with memorable characters, tactical considerations in how you build your character / equipment, light-hearted bits in the story, locations that aren't just brown and grey, etc. Don't just be a more-style-than-substance fighting game with all these big animations but you can hardly tell what the F is going on and you're mostly spamming the same button.
It's still too early for me to judge tbh, would rather wait for the fully release.
That being said, the combat director Ryota Suzuki was also involved in Devil May Cry 5 and Dragon's Dogma, so I can almost guarantee combat will have a lot more depth than some would think.
Please don't compare Dragon's Dogma combat with DMC5. Both are completely different, and I like DD combat system (If it includes attacking monsters from their weak spots, climbing their back and the stuff like this)
In regards to the hopes of a back to roots and FF elements and FFXVI. Given the average amount of time in the past decade or so game development takes. This title was well on its way through development before SE made the decision to sell off the western IPs and studios. So it's quite possible we may see this in FFXVII or the title after it as it feels like most of the things people complain about or didnt like with the most recent installments were attempts at tuning the series to be more appealing to western gamers.I gotta be negative again. So are you saying you see XIV as western fantasy style drab brown barren lands? There were quite a few places that looked outright lifted from the game. One in particular looked just like Vesper Bay. It could be that we've only see the Thanalan type of area and they're saving the other areas for later. We also don't know for sure there isn't a party. Lightning and Noctis were shown solo in their early looks, too.
