I planned buy a PS5 when FFXVI comes out. But since getting a PS5 on the launch day is not a safe bet I got it as soon I had the opportunity. So yes, I got a PS5 mainly for this game (obviously not the only reason).
The second trailer was amazing, I hope there is another one with more world gameplay. This last one was about the Eikons mostly.

I expect it'll be quite good but the direction shown in the latest trailer wasn't really to my tastes. Just didn't look much like Final Fantasy aside from the Summons. I do like a lot of the staff working on it though, there's a lot of legacy Square talent on board.
I do think it'll be a dramatically better game than XIII, XV or VIIr, but I dunno... I've just become cynical towards this company during the past two decades. Hopefully the game is so damned good that it erases that but it'll be a ways for me because I have no interest in Playstation anymore.

One possible thought train IMO on what we've seen so far about FFXVI. The game was in development long before SE chose to sell the western studios and franchises they acquired back when they decided to try and branch out from just being a JRPG company and start making games for western gamers. As such this title will probably carry some of that influence still. However it may be the last title in the main numerical series that does so as some speculate the reason for SE selling off the western studios like they did was that they may be looking to return to their roots making games with the Japanese audience as its focus after repeated attempts of making western style games to appeal to western gamers failed to produce the results they were looking for.I expect it'll be quite good but the direction shown in the latest trailer wasn't really to my tastes. Well 13 and 15 were complete trash, so you picked a bad single player FF to play lol. If you like turn based go try FFX or earlier FF games.
I'm interested, but I don't have a PS5 and I'm not going to buy one so I will have to wait an extra year to play it, which means, I will have the reviews to see if it's good or not.
Yeah, that one was often called Final Fantasy Cutscenes when it first came out.
Do you like JRPGs in general? If so, then IX may be a better choice. It came out after VII and VIII had turned to a more modern setting as a love letter to the original I through VI and their semi-medieval/steampunkish settings.
IV and VI are other classics of the series.
If you enjoy strategy or tactical gameplay, there's Final Fantasy Tactics for straight strategy and Final Fantasy XII that has a system that uses turn based but with a twist in the Gambit system. XII might also seem familiar. When it first came out, everyone said it was like an MMO and I didn't understand because I hadn't played XI. It wasn't like traditional MMOs. Then I played XIV and I understood. It's like a Final Fantasy MMO, and those are entirely their own beasts. That one also has great world building and a storyline that focuses heavily on political intrigue.
My only hope is it's better than 15 and I've seen people not like that it looks like no party members maybe there will be moments with guest party members like 12 had either way just be better than 15 .
Maybe I'll look into XVI once it comes to PC. But I don't feel like buying a PS5 just for a single game.
I want to play it but my copy of FF15 is still sitting unopened on the table next to my PS4. MMO's absorb all my gaming time, I just stopped buying SP games because I never get around to playing them. Plus I don't have a PS5 because I'm having a hard time seeing any games I NEED to play. I bought a PS4 just to play Horizon Zero Dawn and no regrets but I only played like another half dozen games seriously on the PS4 after that and I am dubious if that is an effective use of money when 99% of my time/money I am totally happy just playing various MMOs.
