Are you interested in FF XVI?

It essentially appears to be a character action game, so hard pass.
Perhaps I'd be more open to the concept if Clive wasn't so boring.

Plot seems engaging enough, but not to the point where I would outright purchase the game.
If there are no streaming restrictions planned I might just digest the story through commentary playthroughs posted on YouTube.

Even if I wanted to genuinely buy the game, PS5 is currently the only announced platform.
I don't own a PS5, nor am I certain that they actually exist.

I can confirm they do exist as I ordered one last Wednesday and it showed up this Wednesday....just at a 0.01% drop chance from our local retailer.

As for the question about interest in it....I watched the trailer, and I'm intrigued, but on the fence about whether I will buy it or not. There is still up to a year and a half(allowing for potential delays during production - hopefully no more than that) before it's released, so depending on what else gets revealed between now and then I may end up deciding yes I'm buying it, or saying pass.

I was just thinking about FF16 when I saw your thread. Might the next new jobs YoshiP talked about in an interview be based on FF16?
Anyway, I might buy it after a few days from launch if it came to Steam, and I say steam because I dislike buying from the other store. Until then, I'll refrain from having major opinions on the game as it's still under development, though I have to say it feels different to have a mature-rated FF game when the others are... you know. But yeah, I hope it does have a job system. Something to go back to the roots...

I look forward to playing it, seems interesting from the little we’ve seen so far. It’ll be my third mainline FF game after FF7R (first) and FF14 (second). Only announced for PS5 so far because it’s console exclusive for at least 12 months but if FF7R is anything to by, that’ll be 18 months before a further period of Epic Games Store exclusivity on PC.

I have a PS5 though, 20 million people do right now based on todays media reports, so I’ll actually get to play it. Slightly annoyed when the trailer said Summer 2023 at the end but plenty of other games will be put in the mean time. Also allows more PS5s to get sold with Sony planning for another 10 million units to be sold this financial year if supply allows for it.

Absolutely. The screenplay is written by the team who gave us Heavensward, the most complete FFXIV expansion where arguably the most character development happened. Clive directly parallels Estinien in a number of ways, so those who like one will probably come to like the other. Their localization team is also the one we had back in ARR/Heavensward where the world was full of a lot more flavor compared to recent expansions, where the "medieval" charm is largely lost. FFXIV's world was left in an ideologically homogenous state after the events of Endwalker, with so much identity stripped away from nations and turning one after the other into nice little republics.

FFXVI's PS5 exclusivity is problematic however, but since it will not release for at least another year I suppose the supply situation could always improve by then. I prefer to play things on PC in general. The only other critiques I have is that the UI is a bit much and that I would rather not have the...notifications for lack of a better term that seem to constantly show up on the right side of the screen. Having no playable party members besides Clive is also quite sad, but his wide range of abilities in combat seem to make up for it and while brief, there is some indication that he wears different clothes throughout the story.

Overall despite recent controversies with FFXIV, it is clear to me that FFXVI will bring the mainline series back to where it needs to be after the stain that FFXV left on its reputation. Hopefully it sets the bar for SE regarding future projects so that they are allowed the time to be developed and polished rather than being rushed out the door after 10-year preproduction stages that only go in circles with no progress being done.

Honestly, I'm in the same boat as you: Unsure about the more action-based gameplay, somewhat intrigued by the story, and I don't own a PS5 or planning to get one in the foreseeable future. :/

Extremely excited. Looks like they learned some lessons after 13, 14 1.0 and 15 essentially killed the franchise. They have all the right people on board, and there’s not a single car, Louis Vuitton bag or cup noodle anywhere

Some characters are cool.
If you want to give them a story and make them "relatable" you often ruin them.
Primals are probably next on that list.

The only FF game I've played is FF14 and I intend to keep it that way.
