What's even the point of doing savage?

Hey all,

I started savage couple weeks ago, it's difficult but not that difficult either.

I'm actually on P3S and learn the mecha with my roster.

I wonder though, BIS taken appart, what's the point of the savage content? Just killing difficult boss?

For what? You can be full 600 ilvl (except weapon 595) only with memoquartz. What's even the point of learning and training hours just for killing a boss who gives you nothing really important.

I'm just curious, everyone seems so happy with how the actual endgame content are right now but i don't get it.

Even if you farm and you have everything BIS, in the next big patch when new ilvl release, the stuff from crafting will be 10 ilvl more than your actual BIS.

What's the point? How do you guys don't be bored of farming something that are not more useful than the other one which you don't need to farm to have it but just wait weeks and weeks...

You can't use your stuff on PVP and every roulette are sync so, your stuff means nothing, except for helping you killing the savage you already kill.

Even doing ultimate gives you nothing more except a skin... It just feel weird.

You do savage so you can do ultimate.

Savage is done for the initial satisfaction of overcoming the challenge, aiming for faster killtimes, sharpening your skills for the next tier, and gearing up for Ultimate.

It's just a video game. Yoshida isn't going to pop out of your CD tray, shake your hand and give you a life-altering quantality of money for clearing an Ultimate. You do it purely for your own satisfaction and to test your skills, and if it doesn't seem appealing than it may just not be for you.

It may not be for me then.

The only problem is that it's the only thing to do in endgame content so...

I personally do it because it's challenging content. At the end of the day, this is a videogame that you play for fun.

If you're only playing because of the items you're going to get, then you might have a different philosophy when it comes to why you play videogames.

Asking what the point of doing Savage and/or Ultimate is almost the same as asking why people bother playing games like Dark Souls, or any other challenging single-player game.

FF14 is not a loot driven game and hopefully never will be, now if you want a reason to do savage i can give you a handfull : Dyeable glam, mount, access to ultimate, enjoyable content if you do that with a static.

If that's not enough then i guess savage is not for you.

Yep my question is exactly that But in dark souls, hard boss gives you good gear that you can use the rest of the game. Not totally the case here.

Like you said it's a videogame, you play it for fun. And after killing something that took me 2 weeks to learn, i love receiving an item or something useful on it, and not just killing it "for challenging content".

Challenging content should be rewarded. At least it's my point of view.

I get that, but everything you give as an example is only a skin. The mount you loot after killing 35 times the same savage boss will have the exact same speed of the basic chocobo...

BiS includes Savage gear it's a mix of both, and you need the upgrade thingies for the Tomestone gear too.

If you're gonna ask what the point of BiS is well, what's the point of any endgame raid content in any MMO lol.
I personally enjoy the fights a lot and I re-clear them again throughout the week for fun and to help people who haven't yet.
