Was this the last batch of jobs will ever get?
Was this the last batch of jobs will ever get?
Yup, we're done. Pack it up.
Yes
going forward you should expect them to remove a job each expansion
While it's not a straight forward answer, there is this:

and this:

Annnnd here:
https://www.pcgamesn.com/final-fanta...ffxiv-new-jobs
-- Keep in mind, for context, all of these news outlets are extracting different Q and A bits from a Japanese blog-portal: https://we-are-vanadiel.finalfantasyxi.com/ - which i believe was something created in regards to celebrating the 20th Anniversary of FFXI and it's history.
But as others have pointed out, a new Job has been the selling point for each subsequent expansion. So i highly doubt this is the end of that trend, it's just going to be more challenging at this point, because as mentioned in the japanese interviews that Yoshi-P did, new job's never before seen in the Final Fantasy universe would have to be created.

Journey to all fish: 1383/1729 (348 remaining) [79%]
New jobs are the selling point of new expansions, even way more prominent than adding new races. The views on EW new job trailer exceeded one million when male Viera trailer had only 300k viewers at the time (That's of course back then)
What YoshiP said is that they will focus on introducing new original jobs instead of jobs that appeared in previous games, such as jobs based on characters (Gunbreaker and Squall) or based on weapons unassociated with jobs (Scythes and Astrologian sphere) and so on.
I have a feeling that the number of new jobs will be scaled back to one per expansion. Especially if the PvE/PvP teams aren't expanded.
Another year and change, as it has been for the expansions. It's better this way. They're thinking long term, going another 10 years at least. If they add more jobs more frequently, they're bound to run out of ideas at some point.
That's my guess. I'd rather they take the time to add one really well made new job per expansion going forward, than try to add 2-3 and have them be extremely similar to something we already have.
I would also not be mad if they did like..... one battle job, and one "limited" job similar to BLU that has its own separate game system. Beastmaster has been floated around, as has Puppetmaster, but there's plenty of other things they could consider outside of combat roles.
We haven never had a new crafting job or gathering job, for that matter.
Maybe now they can fix healers! Hahahhaha... haha...
Players Vision of New jobs: BST, PUP, etc.
The Devs Vision: A Monster-Mancer who turns monsters into puppets
Seriously, I feel reaper was not needed; granted I know people may like the job. It just seems like a "Edgy" DRK from XI
Believe or not, jobs are most likely less expensive than an improved character creation system.
Jobs can actually be developed within the system/engine. Character creation/improvements usually require overall changes to an engine, unless you are adding more clothes or something.
You can slap a Ziz and Coeurl on a Summoner and call it a BST, then slap a Puppet on the Ziz and Coeurl. then call that a PUP.
Give Drk some more magic Power Ranger Fireworks on their sword and call it RUN.
