Exactly.Always weird to me to see people vehemently oppose the suggestion, as though it wouldn't be entirely optional (especially if the feature needs to be unlocked first somehow). You already can't do anything about Tanks in swimsuits or absurd animal costumes or Healers wearing the Archfiend set, so how is someone wearing, idk, a pair of boots they previously weren't able to that much worse...?
I can already wear a sweater, sunglasses, jeans and sneakers to a high fantasy fight with a dragon.
Your immersion was never going to stay intact, why not go all in?

It may be that visually equipping an item is inherently locked to the coding that checks whether you can wear it as your current class, or it may be an aesthetic choice by the devs.
My impression is that they are happy to share some designs around between classes but others they want to keep locked – job gear in particular, but also some sets of dungeon gear get assigned to the same roles every time they are reused, and those are usually the more distinctly role-aspected ones with mages in robes and tanks in armour.
I suspect that if it is possible to unlock glamours, it could be "all or nothing" and they don't want unlock all.
Again, this kind of went out the window once cash shop clothes entered the picture.

My point is that the cash shop stuff is part of the group of things they aren't precious about. There are some things they are happy to spread around and some things they keep specific.
I'm still kind of baffled by someone genuinely thinking all jobs should look the same.
In an MMO.
With a cosmetic system.
If you want the class to look the same every time go play one of the solo entries.

Free the Glam!, Duel Pistols (Gunner)?

I mean, I could talk until I'm blue in the face about how I'd love more options for healers.
But really, what I'd like is just to have artifact gear become only restricted to the role if you've leveled all the jobs in that role. Mostly because I can't ever use artifact gear as a glamour due to the restrictions; if I glamoured myself in the Endwalker GNB artifact or SGE gear for those jobs -- both sets I quite like -- and then I was out in the field and wanted to change to WAR or WHM, I'm out of luck; even though the underlying gear is Fending or Healing, it being glamoured to the artifact gear means I cannot equip it. Thus, I have to teleport back to a hub and swap jobs where glamour plates can be applied.
Having it so that if you level all tanks to 90, the tank artifact gear becomes treated like Fending instead of a job-specific set... that'd be a nice perk for leveling all the jobs within a role, and would do away with that annoyance for me.
(Admittedly, so would being able to just apply a glamour plate everywhere so that I knew if I had been GNB and swapped to WAR, the gear would re-glamour and thus equip... but we know that one's a technical limitation due to how glamour works under the hood. And they've demonstrated that gear traits can now be conditionally tied to achievements -- witness artifact gear only being able to be dyed if you've finished the role questlines for Endwalker -- so flipping the job list based on an achievement for leveling all the jobs within a role should at least hypothetically be possible.)
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer

You can still wear the gear, it just won't show the glamour if the job isn't compatible. You'll just see the unglamoured gear instead. I have my MCH goggles glammed on my aiming gear, switching to another aiming job where I can't use plates just shows the normal head gear.I mean, I could talk until I'm blue in the face about how I'd love more options for healers.

There is no good reason for it. There has been no job identity in this game for years. Some gear is overlapping and is being reused between different jobs/roles over the years and a lot of the time it doesn't even fit the job to begin with. Then you have stuff like the Nier raids gear which just has different sleeves and whatnot. There is absolutely no reason or excuse for us to be limited at this point. The other thread by Siddiax is very spot on with all this. I hope the devs take note.

I do wonder whether they are actually happy with bikini tanks or if it's just something they can't block from being an option, given the way the glamour system works. They can't really make seasonal gear anything other than level 1 all-class gear, or it would make it more difficult to wear the outfit at the event – but that means you can also wear it anywhere else.
Also as I see it, regarding aesthetics rather than practical defence, a healer in bikini and tank in bikini are both equally "not wearing proper battle outfits" for their role.
