So....drama? Soap opera drama? Thats what it sounds like to meSorry if I was more interested in going after the end of the world rather than following the drama of a character who died in ARR
Drama?
She was Urianger's best friend, a mentor, one of the very few he allowed to get close. Anyone could see the guilt he had at not seeing her parents. terrified of what they would say..terrified they would blame HIM for her passing. saying that he could have saved her somehow.
Survivor guilt does that to you, you stay away form those they were close to, afraid they would lash out at you and hold you responsible, even if it wasnt the case.

Character development. Remember, Urianger is someone studious, who always has the answers, and doesn't speak much about himself or let us in. It was a rare moment of vulnerability in someone who's usually absolutely steadfast. One might also argue that it was something he needed to get past so he didn't give in to despair and fail us when we needed him most.
...what? These are homages. There are many other Final Fantasy games that XIV references and it all plays into the longstanding multiverse theory about the different Final Fantasy games. The fun part for those who've played the rest of the series is seeing how they incorporate things.

Creative Business Unit III is not a developer that SE acquired. They're part of the structural hierarchy of SE itself. You know how companies have departments or divisions? That's what their business units are. They have the entirety of the Final Fantasy series they can use for references, and other Square games (Thunder God's theme is from Vagrant Story for instance) since those are all the property of the SE entity.
