Was this the last batch of jobs will ever get?
Was this the last batch of jobs will ever get?
Yup, we're done. Pack it up.
Yes
going forward you should expect them to remove a job each expansion
I chuckled, thanks !
While it's not a straight forward answer, there is this:

and this:

Annnnd here:

-- Keep in mind, for context, all of these news outlets are extracting different Q and A bits from a Japanese blog-portal: https://we-are-vanadiel.finalfantasyxi.com/ - which i believe was something created in regards to celebrating the 20th Anniversary of FFXI and it's history.
But as others have pointed out, a new Job has been the selling point for each subsequent expansion. So i highly doubt this is the end of that trend, it's just going to be more challenging at this point, because as mentioned in the japanese interviews that Yoshi-P did, new job's never before seen in the Final Fantasy universe would have to be created.

Journey to all fish: 1383/1729 (348 remaining) [79%]
New jobs are the selling point of new expansions, even way more prominent than adding new races. The views on EW new job trailer exceeded one million when male Viera trailer had only 300k viewers at the time (That's of course back then)
What YoshiP said is that they will focus on introducing new original jobs instead of jobs that appeared in previous games, such as jobs based on characters (Gunbreaker and Squall) or based on weapons unassociated with jobs (Scythes and Astrologian sphere) and so on.
I feel that is more likely for them to follow their statement of no more new races (and we're still due Fem Hroth's implementation) than no more new jobs.New jobs are the selling point of new expansions, even way more prominent than adding new races. I know they are getting closer to a breaking point in what could be added, but at least for DPSers there's still a bit of room, like a true dot centered job.
They could always take a break for one expansion and overhaul everyone as a whole to make sure there's room to grow in the future, while also addressing some issues with the current jobs. I would actually prefer that for 7.0, and then return to adding jobs in 8.0.
There are a lot of things to be looked at, like how homogenous healers and tanks are, the whole 2min party buff windows being boring. Maybe they could improve the code and be able to add more interesting mechanics, like channeled actions that can actually work well in a pve scenario.
I have a feeling that the number of new jobs will be scaled back to one per expansion. Especially if the PvE/PvP teams aren't expanded.
That's my guess. I'd rather they take the time to add one really well made new job per expansion going forward, than try to add 2-3 and have them be extremely similar to something we already have.
I would also not be mad if they did like..... one battle job, and one "limited" job similar to BLU that has its own separate game system. Beastmaster has been floated around, as has Puppetmaster, but there's plenty of other things they could consider outside of combat roles.
We haven never had a new crafting job or gathering job, for that matter.
I suspect they may round off casters and ranged dps come 7.0 to hit 4, and then from there on just focus on one job at a time... maybe another scouting dps after that. Not sure how soon they'll want to add another healer.
Just wish they had another MMO in the works - something Yoshida is more excited about building from the ground up. Something in 16's vein - even if we still know little about it - would draw me in. I've longed for a 12 style MMO for ages now.Honestly, my theory on this is that the game is over for all intents and purposes. As in, Square clearly thinks that the project is a done-deal, and thus can move onto other projects. Not really realizing that there's a long-term plan that needs to be respected.
Sure, they'll sustain the game with events like FF11, keep the servers on. And though Yoshida said "No, we'll get a new saga", what he really means is "We'll get another storyline but it will just be loose things to keep the game alive, not really a macro-level plot like the Zodiark Saga has been."
But they won't pay attention to the game any more. New, innovative stuff? That's too much of a hassle for a decades-old game. They wanted to compete with WoW but likely didn't think it would take this long. FF14's popularity really only boomed recently, and that's what got their attention to the game and made them think "oh, wow, that's actually still going? daaaamn!". But still think there's an expiration date.
Because they're pushing the game as far down to how much people are willing to take and cash in on the people who can settle for the least. That way they can send resources elsewhere.
Eventually, FF14 will have no support from the higher ups, and when players decide that they've had enough and move on, they'll quietly shelf it away as a "finished" product. Kept only alive like 11 is because they still have some random stooges who care enough to try it out for a few months.
