Although references have always been a part of the franchise, XIV is particularly jarring in that it often simply uplifts large swathes of content from previous games and places them directly into XIV's world. This has two consequences - fans of the references rarely get to explore them to the full capacity (since although I love Ivalice, so little of the 'Ivalice' placed into XIV is even accessible). Furthermore, original content - such as the Void Ark raids - is usually a one and done affair that is never referenced again.

Worse yet, we've even got content directly lifted from games other than Final Fantasy. The Monster Hunter and Nier crossover content immediately springs to mind.

I just hope FFXVI is allowed to largely be its own thing. Some references here and there, though maybe it'll be free of weirdness like how FFXV had American Express credit card adverts in-game...

The whole "ripping content from other games" was actually pretty well-executed in the Crystal Tower. FF3 was very well-represented there. But FF3 is also my least favorite FF game, so I didn't really get anything out of it.

The Ivalice and Omega raids were pretty horrid as far as game representation goes, though, as fun as the actual gameplay of that content was. I'm still disappointed that they used Chaos in Omega instead of an MSQ storyline or a raid series dedicated to it. Chaos being the big bad in the greater FF multiverse in the Dissidia games really made me feel like he deserved something more.

Ofc it was well executed for ff3. Guess which ff is yoshi p's favorite? He clearly doesnt care much about the other ff's though seeing as every other ff type reference afterwards has been pretty meh. Especially with Eden, where someone asked why we didnt have more ff8 bosses and he just says "this is ff14 not ff8." As if he didnt literally shove the crystal tower to be a main focal point of the msq and had 3 raids tied to them.

I also thought it was extremely jarring when the Nier raids were introduced. I enjoyed them (and still do) but thought it would have been more appropriate to have the raids be more inline with the FFXIV universe itself. Heck, even the general FF universe would have been better.

Just gotta say, you folks arguing for like 5 pages really didn't accomplish anything. Nor will this post, baybee!!!!

FF14 is going to continue to 'casualize' until its even more unrecognizable than it is now. Casuals should be offended tbh, the devs think you can't work out how to do anything, really. See: Very Easy duty modes, the gutting of all the classes, turning anything unique in classes into the same thing, etc etc.

As far as FFXIV related sites are concerned, Gamer Escape is pretty reputable given that it serves as a database for the game's quests, item descriptions and various other things. So whilst you're certainly free to downplay the source - which I suspect would be done regardless of whichever site was linked - you're also free to do your own research. Maybe find a video of the cosplay event in question.

You keep leaning on that as a sort of desperate 'gotcha' attempt though it isn't true at all. If people didn't care about the game or enjoy it then they wouldn't bother speaking up. Many of us simply don't care for the creepy cult that shields Yoshi-P from any criticism whatsoever. I mostly play for the sake of my house, friends and PvP. That doesn't mean I loathe the game though.
