I see lots of crafter/gatherers in the city states and I am asking you to form new FC's and get houses. To be a proper crafter/gatherers you need access to all the mats that can be gathered. You need a garden and you need airships and submarines you cannot call yourself an Omni-crafter if you don't have a house and a garden. You give the FC more credits than they need and you can make your own FC credits without any help I know I've done it and my FC is level 23 in the 6 months I've had the FC formed 1/29/22.

There is very little materials that you can only get from gardens and even less that you can only get from subs/airships - and in both cases the mats are mainly used for furniture, with some being used for minions. They're absolutly not needed for most crafts and thus not really needed for crafters.

Can they make you a pretty penny? Yeah, sometimes, sure. But they also take a certain amount of investment - building the vessels, maintaining them... that requires upfront crafts. The garden also needs constant maintaince - if you forget to water your (rare) crops daily (or cant water them daily), they'll simply die.

I'm not quite sure what your agenda is here and I wouldnt flat out say that this is bad advice, but its advice that is at least inaccurate and doesnt represent the actual facts - which are: You can craft about 99% of all items in the game without mats that can only bet gotten through housing in some way.

Even if the advice was solid, it's very strange to see someone telling people to abandon their FCs for any reason at all, even if it might be beneficial to them?

Sure you can: after all, you can be an omni-crafter without even being a gatherer. It's just not as profitable.

That said: two of my characters have all their crafting and gathering classes to 90, and my spouse and our friends run our own FC with a house and garden. But my third character is only leveling crafters, not gatherers, and is doing that with GC turnins crafted by my primary character, because there's no need for me to have three omni-crafter/gatherers, I just want the third character to be able to repair gear and do melds.

(There is some small utility in having two omni-gatherers, for things like the grade 3 soils that are on timed nodes and give only one item per node appearance, but once you've gather from those once, you just send your retainers get the mats. )

When I take the prospect of fun, versus your prescribed definition for an omni crafter. I know I'm definitely going to go with the prospect of fun.

A garden provides cross breeding. Crossbreeding provide numerus gill making possibilities so your wrong there.
Thavarian onions is just one example. Crafters need to grow voidrake and Althyk Lavender seeds this will provide an enormous bounty of Items from turn-ins at the apt building or junkmongerers so your wrong again there. Where are you going to get potters stones? how can you make exteriors without a workshop? exteriors at this time garner 10's of millions of gil so your wrong again and again and again. I not advocating the breakage of any FC but I am asking crafter/gatherers to chose themselves over anything for the future of your craft

I am up for crafting free companies. But do not recommend making single player FCs just for the utility. Living in an empty house without the social interactions real FC provides slowly kills you inside. Join a real company.

I was in a FC when I 1st started and was just as alone as I am now. I have a single player FC with 4 alts and my friends are moving in as we speak. I have made friends with the active FC in my ward. A second FC I'm helping with their furnishings I have more social interactions than I ever had in a FC that talk to me for a week then forgot about me. I do advocate making your own FC to be happy and the master of your own game and not subject to some ones bad day when they kicked you out for saying something they thought was in bad taste.

I do have my own FC and my own house and I barely use anything from gardening or airship/submarines in crafting. I still make decent gil. I just concentrate on selling other things.

No, I'm not wrong about not needing a garden to be an omni-crafter.
I don't craft solely to make gil; why would anyone, when gil flows so readily to anyone who is active?
I have more gil than I know what to do with anyway, even after spending literally millions of gil on rare mats to craft glam items (e.g. a varsity skirt and a boulevardier's ruffled shirt for my fem roe). Glam items for myself and as gifts for friends, not for resale.

I craft and gather partly for convenience, but mainly for the same reason I do anything else in FFXIV: because I simply enjoy it. After all, it's just a game, and enjoying it should be the main reason you play.
