I have to agree with Jojoya on this. Such information, should it be real, would have been a PHENOMINAL pick-me-up to all of us wanting to own houses. Yet this is the first time I have ever heard of such an announcement. This information should have already been spread far and wide, were it to be true.

They did a good job of making housing more universally accessible while simultaneously making it harder than ever to get a home.

"Sure, anyone can try! It's a lottery now and SOMEONE has to win, right?!

This is why it takes up so much more server space and how Yoshi-P gets that neighborhood feel he wants to impose on everyone. This is why you can\\\\\\'t just have it set to automatically create new wards when others fill up. Even if they set it so that if even one plot is open in a housing area\\\\\\'s ward another ward can\\\\\\'t auto generate until that plot is taken there would be enough areas where all plots are filled and the system auto generates more. Then we\\\\\\'re talking crashes and all kinds of problems I\\\\\\'m sure the spaghetti code of this game doesn\\\\\\'t help with.

And this is why the neighborhood/wards system is inadequate. It takes them a long time to get more wards because they have to find and allocate server space to accommodate it and they didn\\\\\\'t secure the servers needed for this before shortages became a thing. And before anyone says "but they have money to their at this problem" Yoshi-P agreed with this sentiment and he tried to do that and still couldn\\\\\\'t acquire more servers. He mentioned this in a LL near our before the beginning of 6.0. He tried to spend more money than the servers were worth to "skip the line" so to speak and get them faster and couldn\\\\\\'t. So yeah, the shortages ARE a problem, but only because Yoshi-P and the dev team like the neighborhood feel and don\\\\\\'t care that the majority of the player base would prefer instanced housing.

End of the day that\\\\\\'s the true fix for housing. Everyone could get a house if we all had the option to buy an instanced one. I\\\\\\'m a proponent of a hybrid model. Leave the existing housing areas as they are, add more wards when server space allows, but give everyone instanced housing as an option too. If people want to bid on a non-instanced plot if one is available? Awesome. If not, let them have an instanced one.
Except for the fact they can add that feature, i did math earlier, and it’s not 100% accurate due to the free players on trial and some people pay 14.99, not 12.99, but it came out to being like 300million a year for 1,472,384 active players at 9am PST. On the entire game. All servers, data centers, w.e. They can dump a few million into some servers to support it. Plain and simple. That doesn’t even include lodestone purchases either, fantas, etc. This game along brings them in millions a year, and will continue to. They need to keep the paying customer happy.

My issue with the system isn't "there are FC plots still empty, this proves there's no demand!" it's that the one entry restrictions means that even if there is enough supply for FC housing (which is not a given) it can't be met. I know many who would be grateful for a "give me a small house somewhere, anywhere" lottery option, that would autofill plots and allow for an assesment of the FC/personal housing split. There's the possibility of FCs going through a hundred cycles, losing the small odds every time, never getting a house and then it is suddenly decided "FCs have had long enough to get one, time to open them all up."

I think it's funny how the system was changed to be "more fair" and in the end, that may be the case, but "fairness" and odds typically don't tally up in a way that's good for the applicants. Take for example here where I live, anybody can apply for State Housing. But there's a list. And certain people are prioritised over others. My brother's been waiting close to a decade. Many others I know dont bother applying, because the wait is so long it doesnt even make sense to.

So what's happened here is yes, everybody gets a chance, but before youd have 4 people (who REALLY want a house and are willing to do the work for it) competing against each other [netflix X X down down X anyone?] 1/4 odds and now, that work isn't required so now on the second cycle, houses already have bidders totalling in the hundreds. Thatll only get worse over time. If you didnt get a house on this or the previous wave, then you won't be getting one and I can say that with near certainty (unless you form a solo fc).

Sometimes, "fairness" sounds good but what it actually entails is a whole nother story. I had 12+ hour spamming sessions, didnt get anywhere. Didnt manage to luck out on the first and second lottery, so I'm done now. Gonna take my house money and put it into minions/mounts/% stuff. Tbf even if I got one I doubt I'd actually do much with it. I dont RP or particularly enjoy social stuff with no reward.

I'll engage with the system when it doesnt 1. Lock me into a sub. 2. House is guaranteed. Til then I'm just gonna sit back, and enjoy the drama!

The whole Null Bid 0 lottery nonsense didn't help. Keep in mind we've only had two bid cycles, and pretty much every FC *bee lined* for a large because they knew the mediums and smalls would be open en masse still due to the vastly greater supply than demand.

It does feel high time to open bids up, but how things shake out in Bid Cycles 3 and 4 will probably give a more accurate representation of how many FCs are gunning for homes right now.
