    [dev1017] [dev0000] Mechanic / Tech (steampunk) Knight - New Classes

    I have some ideas for a new Fighting class and Crafting class.

    Tech (steampunk) Knight


    A Class (similar to Edgar in FF VI) that is making use of mechanical weapons and armor.
    The style of all the mechanical items is ‘Steampunk’
    For example:
    - Drill Lance
    - Auto Crossbow
    - Jump Jetpack
    - Jet Hammer
    Unlike other classes, this class can equip various kinds of weapons but only if the weapon is of mechanical nature.
    Also unlike the other classes, when climbing ranks this class does not learn new skills or abilities but rather learns the ability to use new items. By equipping certain items this Class then can perform special abilities. The mechanical items are not limited to weapons only!
    The Tech knight can equip special backpacks, boots and helmets that will enable him to perform new abilities
    Some of the gear may need ‘fuel’ (crafted by Alchemist)


    Mechanic


    This new crafting class is focusing on the development of mechanical items.
    Mechanic can craft various weapons and armor parts for the Tech Knight class but also various mechanical devices for other Classes and various high level crafting tools for all other crafting classes
    And special backpacks such as – auto aether, auto potion, auto revive and so on.
    In end game this class might be able to create a very special mounth, a robo steampunk chocobo.

    We do have some kind of a magic/tech based school of thought in Eorzea, it's especially prominent in the Limsa boat fight. Garlean tech seems to be steam/magic based but they're also considered monsters. The Kobolds have coal-powered digging machines which you can see in one of the Limsa faction leves.

    Things like that aren't too far off from what you're suggesting so I think it's not a bad idea.

    Right, the machinery in LL, the airships and all, it would fit.
    More steampunk would add a nice charm to the game.

    The only problem I see with the suggestion is that it goes against the current weapon = class system.

    Well, instead of them being items, they would be skills that are mostly not cross-classable. Nothin wrong with pullin an auto-crossbow out of nowhere, Its done all the time in funny Anime

    Yes that is true but i think for that reason alone it might be interesting,
    and as for the weapons, despite various shapes and functionality they all still could be classed as "mechanical weapon"

    It could be like a mechanical multi-weapon where it changes shape based on stances activated by skills. It could then be a jack of all trades, master of none kind of thing.

    The different weapons would represent that of a THM's different brands. You have the brand of wind, fire, water, etc. So his different weapons would be of different types or other various subjects. Makes sense. If they ever open up the fire arms guild or whatever it is in LL then perhaps that would take this place?
