Struggling to get 2000 MMR in Mahjong for the music roll

It's very unfair for me, a low Kyu rank to get matched up with some Dan players with visible rating (I'm also new to Mahjong in general). I just can't seem to win at all. The fact that they lock a music roll behind it is absurd. All Dan players should never be able to queue for a Novice game. The hint system is a joke, I followed it and a lot of times it will just lead me to my death. Everytime I start a game I have to disable chat because other Dan players keep saying things I don't understand like: "Riichi Nomi Kanchan 40-1 1300" or "Hadaka Tanki Keishiki Tenpai" or "Daiminkan/Atozuke/Sokuri at the very first chance given". I don't want to learn the game I just want my my music scroll

I can say the same thing with PvP for a certain glamour gear. I don't want to try hard at PvP. I just want the glam.


Then again, what's an achievement to unlock if you don't actually try your very best?

We can't have everything we want without putting in effort, and that's pretty much /thread.

There's no other time-consuming hobby (video games, musical instruments, building ships-in-a-bottle, whatever) where you can get 100% of the rewards by just deciding to skip 'X' aspect of the hobby.

If your goal is to collect all music rolls, you need to be dedicated to mastering the gameplay behind which each is locked. Mahjong, PvP, whatever.

If you're a hardcore (insert item) collector that plays (insert popular video game name), you'll need to be ready and willing to participate in activities outside of your comfort zone. To put it plainly, you need to be ready to do stuff you dislike. That's just how MMOs on Earth work. I dunno what else to say.

What is with the gatekeeping for a MUSIC ROLL?

Comparing it to pvp is a horrible example because you could literally get carried and do nothing to eventually get wins.

riichi.wiki is your friend for understanding what they're saying. take it one game at a time and don't for yourself to queue - mahjong can be fun if you don't let the roll take over your thoughts. as an aside, the roll is only 1600 mmr.

Hang in there Sirocco, with enough practice even you can reach Dan someday! There's handy FFXIV mahjong discord servers you can join where people will help teach you the ropes.

You only need 1600 rating to get the roll, not 2000. 2000 is for the title Mahjong Master.

You shouldn’t worry about it too much. But the hints are definitely terrible. You will be fine if you keep playing. Honestly, FF14 Mahjong is the worst online mahjong I have ever played. The internal RNG is really wonky and you will have a player get exceptionally lucky, more than than they have any reason to be. I mean when I have a 3 way wait on a Riichi with nothing for over 15 go-arounds but another player gets a Tsumo on a one-sided wait but I can get my winning tile, the whole system is just screwy
