What if I want to live as a hermit in my own isolated house? What if I don't want to be part of a neighborhood (implying this even exists lol lmao everyone is just in their own little space never interacting with eachother). Why is that a problem?
Have you seen current housing wards? I already feel like all my neighbors are dead because I sure as hell never see them.
Like never.

Went to a club last night on Sophia in Mist the house was congested there were so many people in it and tons outside. I live in housing wards but yeah they can certainly be empty at times if you're hanging out at your house.

You mean how the vast majority of "neighborhoods" feels right now because nobody actually cares to hang out and socialize with said neighbors? As for the world at large, the only zones active are Limsa and whichever area has the latest tome gear. Every other city hub is all but empty nowadays because we have virtually no reason to go there.
If Instanced Housing were implemented, it wouldn't suddenly kill off the Limsa AFK scene. After all, people like to show off. That being said, if people prefer hanging out at their houses, why shouldn't they?
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
Why are you acting like players would go into their houses and never leave to do other content? Most of the game takes place outside of housing. The world isn't going to die out. The same players going out into the world now will continue to go out into the world. The players who like hanging out in Limsa will continue to hang out in Limsa (I know a lot of the ones doing this on Coeurl already have houses, they just like AFKing in Limsa more).
Wards are dead already. There really is no significant difference between instanced housing and ward housing other than ward housing you're stuck looking at a sea of Paissa, Chocobo, Moogle and Gingerbread Houses with Namazu Effigies plastered around. Instanced housing you wouldn't have to look at that.
If you like chilling at your FC house with your FC mates, you'd still be able to do that with improved instanced housing. Like hosting a RP venue? You'd still be able to do that with improvedinstanced housing.
But at least every player would be able to get a house and no one would be blocked from participating in the content as they want to.
You can go and visit other player's instanced housing any time you want as well. RIFT's system has it done right. It's breaks it down into housing owned by you and your alts, owned by your friends, owned by your FC members, and owned by other players that can be found either through keyword search or their Like system. Find the housing you want to visit on the list and click the Enter button - you're right there.
Players want to create blacklists or whitelists for who can/can't enter their housing? It's there. Want to give other players the ability to change things around in your housing? You can enable it either by group category or whitelist.
Far better than wandering through a dead ward because everyone else with a house there is either offline or doing content elsewhere.
Who's saying they want to be completely alone?

First off, the only reason I play FFXIV is for housing. I don't participate in the combat or other content whatsoever. The only reason I like housing in this game is because so few games have non-instanced housing. Instanced housing would be completely worthless to someone like me. That being said, I would rather them devote server space to more wards instead. Island sanctuaries will not be a housing fix and I hope people don't think it is.

can't
we
have
both?

You can go and visit housing neighbourhoods. Not comparable.
Play a singleplayer game if you want to be completely alone.
Gonna go out on a limb and say you could probably go and visit instanced houses as well, just instead of having a bunch constantly loaded in a ward it would be randomly going to houses through an NPC or whatever system they come up with. Wildstar even did instanced neighborhoods so you could have multiple houses in an instanced area, maybe that would be an option as well.
SE can't/won't add enough server hardware to support sufficient wards for everyone to have a house and making instanced houses potentially makes that a possibility.
