I'm almost certain that this isn't about gambling real money and more about having actual risks and rewards when "gambling" in the saucer. Right now you pretty much can't ever lose MGP on any of the minigames but you also only make pennies with 95% of them to the point that they're not worth the time investment.
There is none of the thrill of for example being close to winning a massive amount of MGP but one mistake could cost you all of it, and maybe even leaving you with a lot less MGP than you had before.

I actually HATE daily log in rewards.

Edit: Oh and Palace of the Dead and Heaven on High...
WOW tried that. Called it Torghast. Did they use FF 14's model? for deep dungeons?

Oh nonononono, God no, they'd NEVER make it fun..they tied player power to it, made it mandatory.

Its failure and waste of time. Basically another chore you are forced to do to craft and upgrade your legendaries/conduits…
The thing is, WoW just does it better.
One in a very long , growing list of failures, you mean.

About the gambling part: solo-queing frontlines is very close to gambling

The one thing I dislike about this game is how irrelevant alts are.

i find it amazing that asmon still plays wow after all these years, maybe its the just the fans and streams keeping wow alive. i've never played wow, but maybe it just has more content that ffxiv would benefit from. somebody enlighten me.
i love this game but it isn't much of a game anymore to me. it's like a playable anime.

genshin impact suffers from this as well. sometimes the best art form for your media is not always a game if you are going to take that full story direction.
MMOs were always about finding your own purpose in them. Be it helping or socializing with other players. Roleplay. Raiding. Or even gathering and crafting. Housing. Fishing all the fish out there...which seems to be really popular among some players. Do maps with friends. Try to get all mounts. Try to get all achievements. Try bluemage. Try to solo deepdungeons. Try to get relic weapons or hunt for other glam. Many players also like the recent pvp changes tho yeah it has some problems with balancing but some jobs are really fun to play. Get married and have children and a cat(boy or girl).

    The moon is the limit.

FFXIV also has stuff like the Gold Saucer and card games that are really popular and imo Fate trains can actually be quite a lot of fun especially if you do it with people you know.
FF14 does not have a toybox, it doesn't have pet battles, achievements are simply far worse and the minion/mount tab badly needs an update. It's not the same and while you can say FF14 has tons of content it's just my opinion that WoW used to do that better. I spent hundreds of hours collecting mounts, pets, toys and achievements in WoW but I just can't get into it in FF14. I've tried, I've collected EX mounts, completed multiple of every expansions relic, played triple triad ...but it just feels pointless for some reason.

As I said, I'm not saying WoW's better. After all I'm here posting on the ff14 forums and quit WoW a while ago. The nail in the coffin with WoW was when they added the 30th renamed rat or snake pet and when they started removing massive chunks of content once they were no longer current. It was bad enough when they started deleting legendary questlines which were full of lore, but taking a break, coming back and finding out 5-6 mounts and a few pets for my collection, the end of the Legion storyline, the burning of Teldrassil and a few other things were simply deleted for me was just going too far. I never went back after that.

I appreciate that ff14 doesn't do that, the only thing I dislike is their habit of moving past event items to the cash shop, which means a new player is going to have to pay cash to fill out a collection.

Again, I'm not saying ff14 sucks, but in my opinion the filler content badly needs some QoL, incentives and developer attention. It could be so much better.

Saying "but FFXIV has all of that as well!" about glamour, minions etc. is like a WoW player responding to "Story over in FFXIV is just so much better!" with the same line.
Yes, WoW has a story and it's okay but it's not outstanding in any way. FFXIV does that better for the most part. Something existing doesn't mean it's good or on the same level.

The glamour storage system in WoW is straight up better, no ifs and buts. If someone doesn't like the style in WoW that's unrelated and doesn't change the fact that the system is overall miles ahead.
You have a neat little tab sorted by type which gives you an instant preview, lists all items you have acquired and haven't acquired and where you get them.
You don't need to physically own an item. Once it was soulbound you're free to destroy it. You can browse through every single item wearable by your character and check where to get something if you like it.
The only thing FFXIV has over WoW is that you can glamour outside of main hubs by using prisms if you have the item with you, everything else is far worse.

Minions have a similiar tab, you can sort it by type and easily search for a specific pet with the search function. You can check how to acquire the pet ingame and get a preview of them, pet battles are a decent way to level and it has a while mini version of Pokemon attached to it with different rarity types, different stats, skill sets and seperate leveling. While you can't interact with them via things like /handover they also have their unique animations they do just like FFXIV minions.

Achievement tab is way more responsive than FFXIV and gives you an instant overview, it is easy to search for a specific achievement, you have a "approaching completion" function similiar to FFXIV, a tracking function for multiple achievements at once, completion date for every achievements with some of them turning into Feats of Strengths (clearing raid tiers early etc).
And most importantly they are way more varied than FFXIV. The absolute majority of FFXIV achievements can be summed up with "Do this" (Stage 1), "Do this a lot" (Stage 2)" and "Do this even more" (Final Stage), a smaller part are continous storyline achievements like MSQ, Hildibrand, Moogle and then you have the classic "Get class to level X" achievements. Only very few of them are on any way creative or let alone challenging. They're generally just extremely reptetitive and boring grind like S-ranks, mob kills, crafting X amount of (HQ) items etc. or highly rng based like the fishing achievements.
Necromancer, Ultimate/ Savage clear are the oddballs here
Compare that to the dungeon/ raid achievements in WoW where you have to play mechanics in unusual ways or overworld achievements that are a bit on the silly side like falling a certain distance without dying, hitting a specific spot with the Darkmoon Fair cannon etc. They generally treat you more like you have a functioning brain instead of "Do this dumb thing over and over again" and I never had as much fun with achievement hunting as when I did the HC dungeon achievements or the Undying/ Immortal during WotLK with some friends and frequently encountered people during HC roulette who asked at the start if we could do a certain dungeon achievement. Most groups were up for it and only went back to doing it the normal way when it didn't work.

I think a big difference is what kind of feeling you want to get from doing something.
Emoting doesn't give off the same feeling as doing HC dungeon achievements and I'm not talking about difficulty. The former is something people like to do to relax, idle and socialise a bit; like in an animated chatroom. It isn't designed to give a feeling of character progression while things like HC dungeon achievements not only give you a shiny mount, they often force you to work around something or get a bit creative to solve a problem which feels more like you progressed in a way.
Having another minion to follow you around is nice and they're really cute but hunting rare pets, training them and unlocking more skills feels more like a progression. Your pets get stronger, your teams get more varied, it feels like a proper growth instead of just owning something or doing something 2000x and that's it.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to invest in your character and it doesn't mean people arer asking for a treadmill, no matter how convenient it may seem to counter with "nooo I'm glad FFXIV isn't like a 2nd job like WoW, go away with all that crap!" every time someone is unhappy with the lack of incentive, creativity and character growth and it doesn't help that some part of the community immediately cries "Elitist!" when someone wants to have more things that feel like accomplishments, even smaller ones like the dungeon achievements or is, heaven forbid, proud of something.
Filler content is just so extremely repetetive and monkey brained here; the variety was something WoW did better.

WoW had the 2nd job treadmill extreme, FFXIV has the anti-accomplishment/ effort extreme.
Neither are good and both are driving away players.
