You know how to tell if a game is bad?

The forums are dead. If someone hates something and posts about it, there is something else in the game they love enough to make them stay. Otherwise they would just quit.

So when you see all these angry posts, remember the flip side is all these pissed off people (myself included) have something they like in the game so much they want to keep playing while being that angry.

Game has to be pretty good to accomplish that.

Has it crossed your mind that some people do like the game but see some serious flaws and would prefer to have them addressed and for things to improve instead of just jumping ship? It is fine to be unhappy with things and voice concerns and it is still possible to enjoy other aspects of the game and have hope for it.
But if the response for everything is "then just don't play it" or "good thing the devs don't listen to anyone anyway" then we have problems. Not now or at least not for everyone but this is exactly the attitude that resulted in the downfall for a lot of other MMOs, not just WoW.

It's not all black and white, the "whiners" don't hate the game or pay the sub just to complain on a forum. Seriously, why would you think that someone does that instead of the much more logical conclucion that they are unhappy with some things but also enjoy enough things to still pay the sub? Just because someone doesn't preface every critique with a long wall of text of things they enjoy doesn't mean they hate the game.

This "you're all just whiners, go play something else if you hate it this much lmao" attitude really needs to stop...
WoW's downfall wasn't due to ppl saying if you don't like it, don't play it. It's the fact that Blizzard made so many bad decisions on content direction that large amounts of people actually did just drop the game to find something else because they realized they spent years paying for a subscription to a game they no longer enjoyed playing and could no longer turn a blind eye to it hoping it would get better with the next expansion.

But then you didn't post caring about any of that. You just simply wanted to try and create an illusion of being a "good person" in front of an online community. Considering how long you've apparently been here you should know by now only a very small amount of the complaints or criticism for the game on this forum are actually constructive. The rest is just a bunch of nonsense attempting to get attention mixed in with trolling attempts.

Me personally. I play a game until I no longer enjoy playing it. Then I move on. I'll leave feedback on things I would like changed or bugs I run across while playing it. The point of playing a game is enjoyment. If you truly aren't enjoying playing a game then you should go find a different title rather than spend your days paying a sub just to sign into the game once a week for a few minutes so you can piss and moan for months and years on end on a forum. There is no shortage of game titles out there. Nothing says you must play something that's main stream or just released. Find something you do like and play it instead. It's a far healthier solution.

I just don't think that should be the case, and I think that mindset is a loss to the value of what a forum could or should be.

When I start liking a thing – game, TV series, whatever – I seek out the forum for that fandom as a way of engaging with other fans about the thing when not playing it. For every other thing besides this game, that lands me in a community of people who primarily like the game and want to talk about it, or hang around and help new players with questions. (I have literally spent years regularly visiting forums for a game you can clear in ten hours.)

Maybe it has shifted over time and forums have gone out of fashion. Maybe it's an attitude in MMOs specifically, where the game continues on infinitely and you don't reach a point where you're finished but still want to talk about the game. Maybe all the positives have trickled away to other places like Discord or in-game chat and I'm just stuck here going "back in my day..." but a forum doesn't have to be just the place you come to complain. It can (or perhaps could, before social media fractured it) be the place where fans gather and talk about what they do and don't enjoy, and a thriving community like that is going to be a more valuable tool for the devs to understand the mood of the fandom.

If people came instead of, or as well as, Reddit and Twitter, I think that would be more powerful than either. I've always preferred the forum structure of keeping all posts in order and not leaving it up to social media algorithms to decide whether pieces of the discussion are visible or not. But to be really useful, it needs the full spread of community voices.

Or they are maybe also playing the game? Games arent just either perfect or garbage. It's difficult for many people (like you) to realize that just because you are critizing something that doesnt mean you hate it. The idea that people who are complaining about aspects of the game can absolutely not also be enjoying the game they like is a wild one.

If we see the devs to a game we enjoy making bad decisions and driving people away we should just let them drive us away instead of telling them that they're making a mistake? We should just stand by and watch if we think this game we like is going into the shitter? I would quite like the game to get better and make improvements that make it more fun, so I think I'll continue to "piss and moan for months and years on end" until the poor decisions come to an end.

Also I'd really like for you to define "constructive criticism" and explain how it differs from what any of us here post about.

I'm very happy with the game.

Course I'm taking breaks and not letting myself burn out.

I have never seen a game forum that was positive. Games at their heights are complained about endlessly, games in the grave are picked at and mocked, it’s never a bright and happy place. I’ll never forget seeing the web of complaints that existed for WoW back in the day when it was at what most considered its peak.

The game can be rather repetitive, but it's a pretty solid formula, so I keep coming back and having fun.

I've been playing since 1.0 and still have tons of fun in the game. I do have issues with certain things like Samurai losing Kaiten, but outside of gameplay balancing I am thrilled with the overall state of play.

Since the release of Shadowbringers, the forums have gradually devolved into what you see now. I browse periodically to find nuggets of interest, but General Discussion is filled with people who will never be happy about anything. Spite is rampant and has infected the core. Reddit is far more enjoyable to browse and, for all we know given the lack of acknowledgement from Community Management, Reddit may be just as useful for giving feedback to the development team as the forums are.
