One thing to remember is that when it comes to game forums, a lot of the content made by people who are relatively satisifed with the game (art, fanwork, memes, etc.) Is generally discouraged by the forum policies around third party links. And in terms of forum culture, it'd be considered kinda gauche to make a thread that's just "here's a picture of my WoL that I drew!" Whereas on reddit or twitter, that'd be considered pretty normal.

So you have a sampling bias towards "discussion" - which tends towards the negative since people don't generally go on forums to discuss elements of a game they like, they play the game. (And as far as SE is concerned, people logging on and actually playing the parts of the game is better evidence of positive feedback then someone coming onto the forums to talk about how great things are.)

I think people who are angry or just really disappointed about something will just have a lot more energy too to spend on it generally speaking ( my signature coincidence not intended ).
Even in the thread as I mentioned where most people rant about the story it still has someone saying that they liked the story with more than double the updoots than the OP and a second one just meme:ing with more too.
But somehow it's evidence of how much people supposedly hated the story?
I wonder if you just reduced the thread to 1 post per person too how it'd really look.

The same goes for me too, I ranted a ton about the Kaiten removal.
I didn't spend a whole lot of energy talking about how much I love NIN in EW tho.

My favorite part of the forums are the group of people insisting that you aren't allowed to complain about the game and saying the forum is an echochamber of FFXIV zealots.... in the midst of complaint thread after complaint thread.


Lots of people are happy, some even on this forum.

Though to be fair there are a FEW measured and valid complaints on this forum, but they get drowned out by trolls and dramabaiters.

If you want to join a community of people who just enjoy the game and having a good time, Reddit is the place for that.

People who enjoys the game don't tend to visit the forum. I started playing since 2014-15 I think, and I barely ever visit the forum. The one period I frequent this forum was during the launch of this expack due to connective issue ... you know, I thought if I can't play the game, at least I can talk about the game. And just like you have realized, the OF is a giant hot steaming pile of poop. These days with the connectivity issues gone, once again I barely visit here any more, 'cause I enjoy my time actually playing the game itself. After 8 years I still pretty much enjoy the game, enough that I have 4 active characters, so plenty of things to do, no time to waste on here. I poke my head in here once in a while, and each time it's the same giant hot steaming pile of fresh poop.

I had come to a conclusion several months ago that the majority of people on the OF are people who must being forced to play the game at gun point, otherwise it bottle the mind how can someone pay 15$/month just to torture themselves that much. Oh and another thing, it's probably take a while for you to notice. But what I just said is only half of the issue, the other half is this forum probably has one of the worst moderating policy I've ever seen, which is why the forum is pretty much the wild west. The only reason it's not the worst is because that ranking is reserved for forum where moderators actively harass and trolling posters, but the policy here is just one level above that.

So we started an FC, and we are genuinly happy and excited to play the game.

On forums it's all doom and gloom. We are having fun. Why doesn't the ffxiv forum community reflect that.

Overall, this is a great expansion. Came back did ARR, so much better, do the rest.

Look in the healer forums for a bit and you might discover why a lot of the healer community is unhappy. (spoiler alert: Square Enix neglect and gaslighting with little-to-no end in sight)

Someone will always have a gripe. Its human nature. Its also subjective.

For example:

Saw the "critiques" of Endwalker and how it was 'controversial" and laughed my head off, I loved it. Every single moment.

"Reapers cant dps" - um yes, they can and they do, they do great dps..oh you mean "raiding only" - well FF 14 isnt raids only , saying RPR isnt a viable class because it doesnt meet your arbitrary "standards" is kinda silly.

BTW all the raid statics I know say RPR does great dps and is a very versatile, very fluid class.

The rest is the usual nitpicking, as a mate of mine said recently "Some people will find fault with the way the sun rises".

Endwalker is and has been a blast, with some heartwrenching moments I will never forget.

One of the last few trials? As a fellow player said "That wasnt her enrage....IT WAS OURS".

Its been fantastic. After 8 years in another MMO that seems to actively find new ways to FAIL, FF 14 is an absolute delight. Take a walk in Gridania on a beautiful sunny day , then tell me that isnt utter beauty

So Im happy as it is. Happy with the game, happy with the content, am an avid and happy crafter, playing alongside some wonderful people.

People talk about a massive population influx recently but in reality it came, it stayed a few weeks, and it got bored and vanished.

The OCE datacentre says hi there we are growing steadily, thanks. Ravana has queues EVERY SINGLE DAY now, the other servers do too, Zurvan is slowly and steadily growing, we are seeing more and more people every month.

It isnt just those xferring btw, old players are returning and rolling on OCE...nearly fainted when i saw a name I hadnt seen in over two years.

Oh and lastly, people coming and going in FF 14 is kinda standard. What was it Yoshi said?

Given that WoW has patch cycles of 6 months to 1 year, I'd say this is quite fast.
