The wiki is up to date. In fact, as far as I can tell it is more up to date than the dat mining sites, which have far less info than we have. Not sure any other sites have any action/combo information, levequest, quest or mission information. There are also player guides, pages describing things like Hamlet Defense and Inns. Item pages have HQ information, condition information, usage (i.e. food/alchemy) information, plus associations with levequests, quests, chests and mobs. Not sure anyone else has any lore information, mob family information, any NPC information other than maybe merchants, and certainly none of their dialogue. quest dialogue.
If you don't mind, ill be adding this to the front. not many people are aware of what your site is (including me)![]()
Gennario Veltaine: Propieter of G&J's Pleather Pleasures
I know this should be said on the GamerEscape feedback forums, but my biggest issues are article page width, and the fact that I cannot edit all of the article on each page.
Let's take Monk's page for example. I go to the page, see a good deal of information stored there. But I see something's off or missing, so I click edit. Now, I cannot edit anything related to the general info section (Base Class, Guild Location, Weapons, etc). I can also not edit anything related to it's actions, gear, or job quests. So what if I wanted the article to not say that Monk's guild location is at the Platinum Mirage (which it's not, Jobs don't have "guilds"), I cannot edit it and have to wait for it to undergo a full design revamp by the higher ups. In addition to this, I also tried to edit the page when the ability icons were just stubs and found I could not even access that section of the page. So what I ended up doing was just giving up and being bitter.
As for the page width thing, it's really hard to write a comprehensive and easy to read gear guide using a similar format to the BST gear guide from FFXIclopedia when everything is sqeezed into 1000px width.
I know as I've tried to do both.
I feel like the switch from Eorzeapedia being very similar to FFXIclopedia at the time, to Eorzeapedia turning into GamerEscape was exactly like the way Facebook keeps updating its UI every 2 months. There's no reason for it, it makes things convoluted, and puts people off. Why fix something that isn't broken? Why make people jump through hoops to edit something simple on a page?

Guilds on job pages is probably an oversight on our end. I think we're still using the class template for the job pages since the two display very similar information.
In regards to changing say an icon for an ability so it appears on the job page list, you need to change the icon on the actual page for that ability.
Lets say there's no icon for Hundred Fists, go to the hundred fists page, upload the icon from there, and then it will show wherever that icon is called.
The way our system works is if you update an item/ability, it will update on any page on the wiki where it's listed. That way you don't have to make a bunch of edits on a bunch of pages for the same time.
Hope that makes sense ^^;
Also in regards to the site design.. back when we had Eorzeapedia, we had people complain that the site was too wide. Too big, too small... unfortunately we just can't make everyone happy. I've been working on some ideas to polish up the layout of the site, however I'm not experienced with coding that type of stuff, and we only have a very, very few amount of people that do, and their time is very limited due to other activities. So while it may be a bit further away then everyone would like, it's still most certainly on our list of things to do.
That... makes... a whole lot of sense actually. Very object oriented.
Alright, with those things in mind I think I'll go back to trying to improve the wiki like I used to. Thanks for the explanation!
My issue with the wiki is it doesn't seem as clear cut as FFXIclopedia was.
My only gripe with Gamerescape is the forced horizontal bar and god awful design (Sorry >< am picky lol), as for conten tho its jam packed i though, so many guides on it. Shame a lot of the "news" is very out dated.
Zam is very out dated, but they're not really a "fan" site because its not made by fans as such, its a network that runs it and just copied over a template.
What "news" is out dated? We update every time the lodestone does and we're one of two sites with an active XIV podcast.
In regards to the layout, we've stated earlier this year that we are in the process of polishing up some stuff for a new design, but as mentioned elsewhere, it's a site run by a very small handful of people who contribute in their free time.
Oh i know too full well about contributing in free time XD But mentioning it doesnt mean much to me personally as i dont use the site often and so i wouldnt ever "read this thing you mentioned". I am learning for first time you have changes planned. What "news" is out dated? We update every time the lodestone does and we're one of two sites with an active XIV podcast.

News ment by the last post being in April. (Excluding Todays). Nothing about Artifacts, or Welcome Back, or Garuda fall etc, etc just little news that shows up on Lodestone doesnt appear to be on GE.
Who hasn't gave up on FF XIV?
