I'm a controller ("gamepad") player, but I didn't start out as one, so this issue doesn't affect me. But I started on keyboard and mouse, and I had quit the game several times years ago for several little, tiny insignificant irritations, irritations that almost completely went away when I started using a controller.

This is one of those irritations that could be resolved for new players who don't want to give up their keyboard and mouse.

Say you change something in the System Configuration or Character Configuration windows, and you forget to click "Apply" before closing the window. At this point, a dialog box pops up asking if you want to close the window and discard all changes, or do nothing. But you obviously want to close the window, otherwise you wouldn't have clicked the "X" button. So, if you then want to save the changes, you have 3 more clicks to do so: click no, click apply, then click X.

Why not have the two choices be to close the window and save the changes or close the window and not save the changes? Then, if you want to save the changes and forgot to click apply before clicking X, you're now only 1 click away from doing what you want to do instead of 3.

This is just one tiny example of these little irritations all throughout the game for keyboard and mouse users. It's one reason why I feel like this game was designed for controller users first, and the keyboard and mouse experience seems second-class.
