FFXIV Dark Knight and Reaper vs WoW Death Knight and Demon Hunter

Lore, aesthetics, combat capabilities, etc... Which one of the two groups wins in your heart of hearts!?

Just to note: This is for fun; as I started playing WoW a couple days ago and this thought popped up into my head after listening to some lore explanation about Death Knights and Demon Hunters. And knowing how we have quite a few players from WoW that joined FFXIV, I wanted to hear their thoughts on our sort of versions of their two of some of their most iconic classes in WoW and the rest of the FFXIV playerbase's on their's. :3

Edit: Also, yes, I know Reaper is actually based off Bloodbourne. But I just thought it and Demon Hunter had sort of a similar thing going on since both essentially make a pact with a Demon. With Reaper's being a voidsent made from our own aether and Demon Hunters eating the heart of a slain demon.

WoW DK and DH have more lore depth to them. Much more than what WoW can offer now, but it still counts.
I find it unfair competition though. Aside from the obvious 1 vs 2, reaper hasn't been out for long and is an original job concept while both DKs and DHs are as iconic to WoW as BLM and WHM are to the whole FF franchise.
Going for combat capabilities, yes reaper is the closest job to resemble those two without going as far as undeath and demonic rituals with sacrifices and stuff for body enhancements and altering (You know what I mean)
But yeah as a WoW DK main, I'd rather play as a RPR over the other jobs, even though it leans toward being FF variation of WoW DHs over DKs

I highly doubt it as a possibility, but if we're ever going to get a necromancer job, then I'd hope they use some of WoW concepts regarding DKs such as ice and blood attacks (Highly doubt the blood option) and unleashing a small army of undead as well, or they could go the way around and use some of ESO concepts which really impressed me how they made a necromancer capable of being a healer, a tank, and a DPS without going off.
Thinking of it now, I want one....

Death Knight is the most interesting & coolest job out of the four. The three specs it has are also great.

True, lol! It is a bit unfair to compare Reaper lore wise with two WoW job titans, like Demon Hunter and Death Knight...But there's just no other job so far in FFXIV I could really think of that compared to them; specifically Demon Hunter. As soon as I learned their lore, I instantly thought of Reaper and how Reaper was like a weaker version of Demon Hunter. Though, now that I think about it for a second. Dragoon back in ARR and Heavensward could possibly be more comparable to Demon Hunter considering Estinien at the time, along with our WoL always had to keep Nidhogg's will at bay and Estinien falling to his influence twice. So...Dragon is one of the most iconic jobs in FF, so there we have it! A possibly better comparison to Demon Hunter. though not as Dark and edgy, but lore wise, especially in FFXIV, dark and fascinating!

I'm kind of hoping the XIV team takes another look at WoW's Death Knight and kind of does the reverse with it a little on Dark Knight. Like elemental wise, Dark Knight could be associated with not only Darkness, but Fire was well, considering the Dark Knight literally ignites their own aether to produce their flood of dark energy. Along with their dark flames being able to temporarily revive both party members and enemies. Your party members being revived similar to how Living Dead works, except the Healer only needs to get them back to more than half their health before Dark Knight's revival effects wear off. And reviving enemies, you basically "control" them like Fray and can even double up as human shields for your allies when you can't cast The Blackest Knight on them.

I don't blame you for picking Reaper over Dark Knight. Its fighting style is cooler and hitting that Enshroud transformation is always the best feeling!

Well, since as a Reaper we are literally stealing the souls of our enemies to feed and fuel our personal Voidsent's appetite and Dark Knight still rips the life energy from its enemies in order to heal themselves (mostly in Living Dead mode though), I wouldn't count out getting a Necromancer job, or at least one close enough to Necromancer appearing in FFXIV as a new Job. Since the XIV, like WoW, takes inspiration from other games, maybe the dev team will look at ESO's Necromancer or another games version and base it off of that! We got Reaper through Bloodbourne and Dark Knight through WoW, so there's still a possibility it will happen.

Unfortunately, I haven't gotten far enough into WoW to experience Death Knight, but the lore I learned off videos is awesome! I hope WoW gives both them and Demon Hunter a bigger role to play in future expansions, as one lore youtuber of WoW I watch alot explained how both Death Knight and Demon Hunter have next to no purpose anymore since the Lich King, Arthas has long since been dead and Burning Legion has been pretty much dismantled.

Though, maybe they'll become more like how Witchers are in their own game: Lone super powered warriors that specialize in wooing out the remnants of the Scourge/demons where ever they go.

I like all of them but given I played the ever living murloc out of Warcraft 3... Both WoW classes have really special places in my heart. I also like in general WoW does a better job with roleplay class fantasy (for example dh can glide, and dk can walk on water).

I reeeeweweeeeeeewaaaalllllllllllllll ..... Lllllll ....y like the visual fantasy of the demon with wings that DH has (Ilidan metamorphosis for the win) and I would have nearly cried from joy if Reaper had a Diabolos mode... But otherwise I think both FFXIV jobs have way cooler special effects / animations (the wraith is very cool looking, I do like it a lot, and the avatar mode is very anime so I bet some love it, though to me it's the alright part, and I would have rather turned into Diabolos lol).

DRK and RPR equally (although gameplay wise RPR since I haven't sunk my teeth properly into DRK yet) because I can have my very own edgy pet. I do remember making endless stories of my DK and DH characters but while I liked the context that made them, the aesthetic and looks were kinda meh.

Probably the only reason why Jobs in FFXIV don't have specific special abilities like that is because it would then cause other people who don't have that job unlocked that one special ability they want to complain, even though they can spend the time to level up that job in order to get that special ability, since FFXIV doesn't link their jobs to just one character each. It would be freaking amazing if FFXIV just through caution to the wind and did that, though! Sage being able to glide through the air, Dragoon being able to act as their own mount and jump through the skies and Black and White Mage having the ability to defy the laws of physics and teleport wherever they want within a zone and hovering over all surfaces, including water. It would be so freaking amazing!!!

In the future, maybe we'll have the ability to customize Reaper's Avatar to make it look like what we want, and in so doing, have an affect on our Enshroud form. So maybe one day we'll get a Diabolos glamour for Reaper and its avatar! You never know!

Hehe, prepare to be surprised later when you level up Dark Knight up to lvl 70! x3
In the meantime, I hope you have fun with leveling it!

Maybe Blizzard one day can upgrade Death Knight and Demon Hunter's customizable appearances, so you can have your very own unique Death Knight or Demon Hunter that stands out among the rest! I don't know what other abilities Death Knight has besides ice spells and necromancy, but Demon Hunter, maybe it could get other customizable forms in the future based off of other demons besides Illiden. Wouldn't mind some forms based off of the Old Gods. :3

Even though RPR and DRK aren't especially unique, neither are DK or DH. DK is a chaos rip off (especially unholy & blood) and DH is just a generic Demon-man hybrid. I'd say they're both relatively fun to play.

I have more fun on my DH, but don't make me choose the favourite of my many children.

Let us reapers adopt Zenos' voidsent and then we'll talk.

While I can see people trying to make comparisons between Dark Knight and tank-spec Death Knight, Reaper isn't like Demon Hunter at all. The defining feature of DH was it's incredible mobility compared to other classes. Everyone had builder/spender mechanics and a burst window, but not everyone had even one of DH's multiple (and extremely satisfying) mobility tools. It's hard to adequately describe how mobile DH was in XIV terms because nothing in XIV comes close. Reaper doesn't even attempt to compete on that axis; it's completely unremarkable compared to it's peers.

DRK with tank DK is a closer comparison, but mostly they share some visual aesthetics. Most of what made tank DK unique is actually a feature of WAR in XIV, not DRK. Pulling enemies around and leeching health to sustain yourself are core parts of both WAR and tank DK, though DK had a much, much greater emphasis on it. By comparison I honestly don't think DRK is very coherent in terms of mechanical identity.
