Don't say me that isn't strange. With the new model of house getting a lot larger than the old one, all the "decoration" will stand right in your access door, which is really akward. Nobody desire to have a house where you walk straight into a wall when you enter the garden.

Ul'dah and Gridania houses need to be rearranged in order to give space for the new house's build. Only a few houses suffer from this, but this downgrade the value of a place by a significant margin.

On this screenshot, you can see the "Maximum size" occupied by the house, which wasn't that before. In other words, some house won't even fit correctly here. one of the best exemple is the "Cafe Walls", especially on these one, you have a flower pot in your way, you can't make proper entrance to your garden

My private goblet mansion is on that spot too, it always irritated me. Took me a while to have the garden look nice. Glad my FC mansion in Ishgard does not suffer from this issue.

That is...bizarre. For all the Gil that is required to purchase such a plot and given how few of these plots exist, you would think they would have been set up properly.

There's nothing wrong with the way the plots are set up. The layout works just fine with older skins and can lead to some very creative yard design that you can't achieve when the entrance to the plot is in a direct line with the front door.

It's the newer skins that aren't following the standard skin layout that are causing issues. It's something for buyers to keep in mind when deciding what plot they want to purchase and which housing skin they want to use.

Sorry, I'm going to have to disagree. There are a lot of things wrong with the way the plots are set up and not having a choice about which way your house faces is one of them.
It's not really valid to blame the skins. Those skins are made in-house and hopefully run past quality control... hopefully... Yet, I often see skins clipping through stairs and walls depending on where the plot is. It's not good enough to tell players to stick to the old skins unless they have a prime plot with the house facing the gate, or to just suck it up.

And as to deciding which plot to buy, that's a good one! On most worlds you take what you can get when you can get it. Choice?!? Maybe you're thinking of a different game.

I like little asymmetry in shape of gardens/yards, but I am usually equally if not more intersted in decorating the garden/yard.

Unfortunately inly small plots have some meaninful space at the side of the house.

If we follow your idea, this mean to expand yards in order to have the side space open.

Not gonna lie, even if this can be a good idea for people who love housing, it's almost impossible for it to happen. The reason ? The housing area was not designed to have yard expanded. In order to do that, SE will need to rearrange the entire housing area.

Honestly the goblet in general could do with some redesign to make it more appealing. I really hope the graphical update does it some favours in future.

Yeah, I would appreciate that they consider some type of re-works. I had so much of a hard time decorating my FC's yard. Nearly drove me nuts. Problem now is that I'm so decor'd out, I can't even finish revamping my own personal house due to the fact I'm drained with mini PTSD on this asymmetrical yard.
