It is true, and a harsh reality. I could also add that on average, it also takes males much longer to become established to the point they can support a family than it did only 20 to 30 years ago. This is largely in part due to the fact that not only do they have to compete with other males for top earning positions; they have to compete with all the females too. As a result, most men can't support families until they are in their mid to late 30s, and this is only getting higher and higher.
That and massive wage stagnation combined with rampant inflation. Cost of living skyrockets while pay rates barely shift, the rich get richer while everyone else struggles and suffers.
