    Level 90 summons still can’t be glamoured

    New thread same stuff. Still no acknowledgement of this travesty, still avoiding the topic. And still I fight and I won’t stop. My pain will not go unnoticed, my agony will not go unsung. I will become the next meteon if I cannot have my carbuncles.’My carby’s are my life. My carbies are my soul. They became it when I first summoned them in ARR when I first played ACN.

    I asked for the ability to use them back then. You said “oh that’s a great idea” and did it. Now you take it away from me years later. You tease me with a new Carbuncle gauge. You allow Carbuncle to be a separate summon but he sits there doing nothing. You give me a portrait/adventure plate customization to give me the Carby gauge in that portrait. And yet you will not let me have them despite the hundreds of dollars I have spent on Carbuncles in this game alone (this does in fact include the physical items in real life. I have a handkerchief A HANDLERCHIEF of Carbuncles). And yet I have to watch as my little buddy sits there not fighting by my side. Just standing there waiting to shield.

    I literally have a stream 2-d vtuber avatar that’s a Carbuncle. (Made legally distinct because carbuncles aren’t copyrighted just the FFXIV ones)

    That is really overdue!

    And on the bright side (for everybody else) it would give the option to reduce visual clutter, since carbys are pretty small.

    On top of that, the baseline carbuncle right now is just a nuisance that prevents you from using Radiant Aegis half of the time (now that Searing Light was detached from them)... Why not just remove the shield as well and make him just a cosmetic spell that is optional?

    I love carbys myself but I hate the fact that the little thing stands there doing absolutely nothing and most of the time turned AWAY from the enemy. To me is either re-introduce even a little bit of action for the carbuncle or just make it an optional cosmetic spell.

    You can't give carbuncle anything beyond a cheap auto because of the sheer amount of demi/gem summoning in the rotation. The thing is dead half the rotation, which is time you can not use any abilities period. The fact that it dies means any action you give it has the potential to ghost (somehow, despite them not doing anything I've still seen a 1+s delay on giving out the shield). The way Summoner exists now has no room for carbuncle, or any pet actions really. It should have just been removed and made cosmetic at best but now we're stuck with these bizarre problems and design limitations because they insisted on keeping it an actual pet.

    My thoughts, really. The pet responsivity might have got a little better with EW, but still I think the game's code has no room for an actual pet job - with micromanaging a second entity all the time, as opposed to have it just be part of action animations... That's exactly why I think a Beastmaster or Puppeteer jobs can't make the cut without being part of an alternative gameplay (limited job?).

    Scholar can get away with it because the fairy's actions is just a part of the whole kit, and even to this day I find the delayed actions a bit clunky to use and still with (albeit less than before) potential to ghost.

    Funnily enough, I think a true pet job could work in the game, but not the way SE would design it. For instance, pet action delay almost never mattered for the original Contagion in HW because you had a minimum of 15 seconds for it to go off before anything bad could happen. If you didn't Miasma II as your gcd before bursting you had even longer to work with. Having pets generate a resource you can spend later, like ShB Ruin IV, would also easily work. The problem is that SE implemented sweeping pet action changes on top of forced swapping mechanics, which made all the problems a million times worse. Now not only is there pet lag, but the lag can straight up cause a skill failure because the pet has to die for the swap to Demi summoning. And then the Demi dies when its timer ends, causing another hard cut. These hard cuts are the root of the problem, which makes it even more mind boggling they saw what SB did to Summoner and then doubled down giving Seraph and all the same problems to Scholar.

    Yeah, Devotion getting pushed would always be a problem, but I'm 100% convinced SB and ShB summoner would have felt remarkably better, if not outright fine in most cases, had we not been saddled with the forced swaps in a Demi mechanic. If SE wants to make the concept work they have to settle on ONE pet. No more swaps, forced timers for actions, or goofy command chains (you push button -> button tells pet to act -> pet acts as soon as able). You could even customize the pet, or have multiple for certain situations (like ShB smn), but you can't put in another swap.
