YUP. We had so many people experiencing problems at the same time, every day, that we began calling it "comcast time" as a meme. But it wasn't even just affecting comcast users; it started branching out and hitting pretty much everyone. I don't recall any word at all from SE about it, and players had to sort of fumble in the dark until they found their own solutions. Personally, playing the game through a VPN fixed it for me. I began sharing my vpn account with other people I played with, and it fixed things for them too. Made me think it was a routing issue on the way to the game's servers. I'm not mad at SE for not fixing an infrastructure problem out of their hands (going to be generous and assume this was the problem), but I wish they'd even acknowledged that people were having issues and they were looking into it. This went on for months on my end with radio silence until one day it simply stopped being an issue. Every now and again though it crops up in the evening for a week or two at a time and I have to play on a VPN again, and sure enough all the other same people are affected as well. Massive packet loss. People running in place for 10 seconds and then snapping back all at once. Straight up unplayable unless you do something about it yourself. And of course, XIV will be the only application affected by it; discord's fine, streaming is fine, other games are fine, etc.
Meanwhile when the problem affects Japan, here we are with a statement immediately.

We have to spam reports.Based on the information that most of the recent reports are specifically coming from Japan, while others are playing without issue,
Discussion threads are useless. Doesnt matter how well they are written, or how much trouble shooting and evidence is posted.
Just, every time you are impacted negatively by latency, open up that contact us form and submit a report.
We can't consolidate our problems like we have been doing for ~10 years, hoping that they'll read and understand the nuance of our situation. It's obviously not working.
Volume is, apparently, key.
~sigh~

Copy pasting a comment from the reddit thread I found applicable...
Western Players: Complain about network issues for 5+ years
YoshiP: "Lol what network issues?"
JP Players: "Hey, I get lag sometimes when playing on my console wirelessly tethered to my cellphone internet connection"
YoshiP: "We're on it and we will personally contact your ISP to investigate!"
The best part of it....
They want you to file a Network packet loss test
Using a Third party tool!
The jokes write themselves
Shocker - they only address it when the Japanese data center players complain about it.
But if someone else does that's not there, it's 'duly noted'.

Haven‘t people been complaining about this since ever?![]()

TO BE FAIR
We might not actually be reporting on this as much as we should or think we are, since we might've just grown numb to what is essentially a constant property to playing on our servers.
Fire is hot, water is wet, the NA servers have crippling latency problems.
Such is the innate properties of the universe~ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For jp, not having perfect ping is novel, so they might just have gotten a disproportionate influx of reports, while ours have been spread out over the entire lifespan of the game.

Thanks for caring about this when we told you it was happening outside your islands, Square Enix.
Maybe now we'll see some actual action? Or are you're just going to move the goalpost even further by saying "Not on my machine, not much I can do"?

the problem i have with this "response" is
1: Ping and lag issues have been talked about since Stormblood at the latest, maybe before, and has been brought up at live letters, interviews and events and the response is always basically "we didnt know that this was a problem"
2: If I am having lag or ping issues in a dungeon or raid, im supposed to stop, run a test on my computer and submit that information? or do I wait till im out of the duty and submit a ticket then when the technical issues aren't actively happening?
3: A majority of the ways to actively know if youre experiencing these issues is with 3rd party add ons, but using 3rd party add ons can get us banned.
Unless Im missing something
