Am convinced the dev team clicks all the things manually and seldom interacts with the targeting.

Hmm?! What doth you mean you do not like left to right - right to left? No no this is how it works.

Now get out there and set up those four targeting profiles yet still target enemies with num 0 because it matters not what the profile limits it will always select enemies (if in five yalms) over signs. Even better yup yup! Enemies pulled by someone not yourself do not always appear in the aggro list sooooo cycle aggro list will not work.

Ohhh oh right mmhmm, try "cone". Cone should be nearest ---> farthest correct? Well well it kinda sorta is but settings in FF14 are only suggestions some of the times. Cone is only nearest > farthest whenever it feels like it. Ohhh also now you cannot tab to the mob punching your face in because it is standing next to you not in front of you.

It should preferably prioritize hostile mobs then further mobs that are doing the aforementioned punching in your face. Nay! Say the devs. It will target the antelope standing in another time zone.

Aye fellow sufferer, this is point of contention most hot amongst those I have invited to FF14 land. No one enjoys the targeting especially friends/extended family who are veterans of other mmos. Regularly can hear them shout obscenities when they are over and know exactly which game they are playing. My mom spent umm, probably about hour setting things up with her sis (as fresh new sprout it bothered her so much). Just standing there in Central Thanalan configuring filter lists only to discover how fricken finicky they are. She is one who says "All settings are only suggestion".

What truly boggles the mind is how auto target functions. Tis nearly perfect! Selects closest target and appears to prioritize hostile attacking mobs. Ctrl + C that code into the tab target function for the love of the twelve.

Of course none of this is relevant in higher level content where you almost almost never swap between multiple hostile targets (at the least not frequently enough). It does effect new players who will be interacting with dungeons most frequently though. While we are discussing this can we fix that fricken "majority of enemy hitbox must be within the camera to target" garbage nonsense. Need hotkey to alter camera angle just to target tall bosses, it brings feist. Occasionally if I spin the camera the game will un-target the boss. Drives me bonkers!

There is a separate keybind for that: Target Nearest Enemy. It's appropriate for them to be two separate keys so that you can always choose to target the nearest enemy regardless of what you are targeting and where its placement in a group or on the screen is.

Target Nearest Enemy and Target Nearest NPC or Object are two of the most useful keybinds in the game and everyone should map them to something close to resting position because you will press them a lot.

New auto target works too for target nearest and we all have resigned to setting up target filters. This can allow numpad 0 (or whichever you bind this) to play double/triple/quadruple duty. Two filter groups for out of combat then one for weapon drawn and another for weapon sheathed. Works fricken swell if you are like myself and highly limited on available keys to bind (I gots tiny tiny hands). Highly recommended for controller too that you configure at the least weapon sheathed + weapon drawn.

Good post though! Far far of the easier then toiling away with filter groups if you have available binds. Mine was more of one biiiiiig fat collective venting of feist from myself and extended family post.

Surprised no forbidden tools have appeared to bake all of this stuffs into the tab button. Have been meaning to look into this myself because have this feeling one or two friends are already doing so. Many powerful apis floating about out there.. not that this Mia would condone such things as they are tos violation most severe.

    +1
I have it set so I press "enter" to target the nearest thing, then just SHIFT+up/down to go up/down the party list and left/right to go through the nearest mobs/NPCs.

Any more complicated than that and I can just use the mouse, but honestly I have never really needed to in 10ish years playing.
