Thread: About Reaper.

    I personally find it a lot of fun and struggle to think of how you could add complexity to what we have now without entirely changing the feel of how it plays. And for what? There are some minor tweaks I'd make to the job, but making it more complex (whatever that would actually mean for it) certainly isn't one of them.

    this isnt an issue strictly with reaper, other jobs have it as well, but arbitrary button bloat from abilities that do the same thing, share a recast timer, but one for st and one for aoe.

    shadow/whorl of death

    soul scythe/soul slice

    ...just keep the aoe one, give it it's st counterparts potency, and x% reduced potency on all other targets. that syntax is literally already in reapers toolkit with communio

    same with warrior now with orogeny. does the exact same thing and serves the exact same purpose as upheaval, shares a cooldown with upheaval, its just aoe and upheavel is st. why? game already has too many buttons, why arbitrarily give it more when the job could be done with fewer buttons.

    that doesnt necessarily mean i think aoe damage should be tied into your standard st combo, but some level of consolidation can be achieved.

    other than that, i've been enjoying reaper.

    Omg, please no. Dancer is already my most hated and less played job because of way too much aoes in his single target rotation, please dont bring this in even more other jobs.

    When i am doing other things than normal dungeons or raids, there is plenty of cases where i want to hit only one mob, without aggroing all the other mobs who are nearby. Which is why having a clear distinction between single target and aoes is highly useful. And also why i dislike dancer so much, because i can't play more than 5 seconds with it without aggroing the whole world of Eorzea.

    If you think that there is too much buttons in jobs who have single target and aoes similar skills, just use a single key to switch between the two. Like 1-2-3 for single target combo, and ctrl+1-ctrl+2-ctrl+3 for the aoe one.

    The next Deep Dungeon is coming, and i am pretty sure that you absolutely do not want tons of unwanted aoes in your bars when trying to solo the last floors where you have to carefully pick mobs one by one if you don't want to fail the whole run.

    Have you ever heard that there is different aggro types in the game ? When you take avantage of that, you can chain mobs one by one way quicker than launching a weak ranged single target skill from afar and then waiting for the mob to come to you. The most common example being having a mob of the sight-aggro type who did turn his back to you, allowing you to have the time to kill another mob next to him.

    But hey i am asking that to someone who thinks that reaper, who is by far the easiest melee to play, still have way too many buttons. Seriously.

    I'm fine with that, as long as they add in the ability to shut off the AOE portion. There are circumstances where you don't want to AOE and get hate on other people's stuff. I'm thinking cases like Bozja where someone drags in a Tier V enemy into the FATE hoping people grab hate.

    The DPS for reaper feels fine to me. The percentage difference between reaper and dragoon, which probably ranks at the top right now, is not that much. Dragoon might be a bit high, actually. I mean they usually drift within a very minor percentage between one another and even then it can come down to the fights themselves and how the burst windows align with the fights. Dragoon might just align better with the fight mechanics at this tier than reaper does, and reapers own rotation kind of wants it to use Arcane Cricle ASAP rather than wait since a lot of the fights have an opening segment where it makes sense to use it.

    Also this game has a weird relationship with more skills resulting in higher damage potential. Reaper is pretty much a solid flowing dps, where as dragoon has a bunch of OGCDs it can weave in when it needs to as filler. RPR is very much like a "melee black mage" in practice because of the rotation.

    Also, no surprise but when someone looks at the damage potential, both reaper and machinist are in the same boat due to having a very similar flow.

    Reaper is effectively the lowest DPS for the melee class, in term of rDPS.

    I love playing reaper, but I also feel that the damage output feel somewhat Linear. Every GCD attack outside of the 1-2-3 combo will hit to 520 Potency (Exception for Communio, whose at 1000)

    What I'd love to see, is to balance a little more the DPS to boost Communio. When I first played this class, I've got a strange feeling about using Communio, with all the sound and special effect, this attack really feels heavy, like you are really exploding your opponent.
