I am surprised how coveted the housing system is. I never paid it much mind to the housing system because I came from an MMO without them. Do the houses offer unique advantages?

I don't know about private houses, But if a free company owns the house, it comes with a workshop in which they can build airships or submarines and use them to gather crafting materials and other neat items.

For a great many people, there is almost an instinctive need for having a place they can call home. One should not be surprised then, that people search for the same thing in a game. While houses convey some advantages they are not mandatory in order to be able to play the game. However, they fill that instinctive need for a home. Apartments would have worked for this as well but they were made embarrassingly small and thus do not offer the same breadth of customization that houses do.
Pretty perfect response, also to add to why apartments feel lesser is because . . . They are, yet the reason many don't have different options is not because of their own financial issue but because of the game's inability to provide - this leaves a further sour taste for some. You have to compromise because the game can't provide what you'd like, even if you were able to pay the fee.For a great many people, there is almost an instinctive need for having a place they can call home. "It's not me, it's you". Lol.
For myself there is a significant extension of distraught that we have this system because it directly impacts the expansive and expansion capabilities. Say unlike systems that do offer everyone the opportunity so they therefore have interesting systems combined with large high impacting and often easier to use customizations.
Objects are cute and some talented people in the community, but given the system the whole thing has always tasted salty and bitter. Like I'm glad they are fixing the wait at placard for 8 hours trauma, but year after year after year of /signicant/ issues all seem like "why are we even here... Just to suffer.." meme lol.

All I want is a "chocobo radio" where I can play my collected orchestration rolls on my mount instead of my basic music. I know most people turn off the mount music to hear the ambiance. BUt most music can be collected. Imagine how much more importance these rolls would have if you can play them otuside your house. Which btw, many of us dont have T.T
My biggest problem with the game is healer gameplay, I have minor annoyances like most people presumably do but I don't think XIV has any incredibly glaring or gaping flaws outside of the direction they're taking jobs.
I think housing could be handled way better and its pretty disastrous in implementation but I don't think it's game ruining; the gameplay IS something we interact with everytime we play this game unless we just want to idle and chat so I'd like to have more than just Broil to spam in all content.
I completely forgot about the collected music. Yes, to utilize them outside of houses is an excellent idea. All I want is a "chocobo radio" where I can play my collected orchestration rolls on my mount instead of my basic music. gameplay is hot trash outside of ultimate
- clunky combat system where an animation takes infinite time, way less smooth than wow and lost ark. literally aids to play without alex.
- homogenization of all jobs and making them incredibly braindead
- most bosses are striking dummies
- can't seem to develop any side content without it being regurgitated fates.
i've given up on this game honestly, might move on after finishing ultimate. and the reason i've given up is not because of the issues but because they are too arrogant to change course and are obviously sacrificing their veterans like lambs to appease the casual non-MMO crowds, the single-player crowd, and the FF fans who hate MMOs.
when this game's catering to fat neckbeards soying over how "zomg ff14 is an rpgmmo" during the influx i was on copium for a while thinking it's just a phase. but apparently not. so i'm moving on.

As someone who is more a single player RPG fan than an mmo fan I’m sorry to say but FFXIV has key failings that prevent it from delivering on that front as well. As wonderful as the Trust system is, it quickly falls apart when the narrative makes me despise my own party members due to their lack of development. Job design ranging from great to bewildering makes for an uneven experience depending on what you end up choosing.

If you want a single player MMORPG, then honestly FFXI despite its difficulty feels more rewarding than FFXIV. There I get to collect and choose from a huge list of potential party members, and given the various forms of progression you can literally do anything you want with your character. You can even have your own house there, completely removed from placard spam and bugged lotteries.
In any case, both single player games and mmorpgs need good gameplay, *functional* features, and a story that at the very least provides an interesting basis for the world without needless convoluted mechanics like time travel loops and “ultimate despair” being thrown in at the absolute last minute.
