I wouldn't mind it being a bit restricted as to not have the same questions being asked constantly, or for similar reasons, but I feel it would be a lot smoother than the current "Like post #1 if you agree, post #2 if you disagree."

Moreover, the I think ability to see recent polls and their results more easily would help with getting a quicker grasp on what the community is looking for.

The same slight modifications to the html design (likely just positioning the "poll" components over the "thread" components on home or New Posts pages) would help with keeping old posts from being lost and their subjects repeated.
