Since there are no replies, I suppose I can kick things off.
After getting level 50 BRD/ARC, I finally found out about inn room! Yes if you do not know about the inns, there is an NPC in the main nations that give you a simple quest, allowing you to stay in an inn, granting you bonus exp towards monster kills, synths, and gathering depending on how long you stay in the inn. Its best to log out in your inn over night so you gain the exp bonus while you sleep. This also allows you to have a second home point, so you can have one in say Ul'dah and another in a different nation.
When I was a newbie, the game was entirely different. I've managed to stay on top of pretty much everything by just reading the patch notes... so I suppose my advice is to just read the patch notes, you'll avoid having to wish you knew something :P
Leves(quests), just do them! You will level up, get gil, and feel more productive when doing Leves. It's like drinking a V8! XD
Honestly between the gil and the experience they are a safe bet for almost anyone. Kept looking for NPC with an "!" around them for quests (such has been drilled into us since the beginning of RPGs). When I couldnt find any, I just went to grinding on mobs... Searched the net for tips on how to level faster and found the link below.
For Leves- start by checking your city map for a local leve Master(have their own icon, check your map's legend). Each city has one. Go talk to them. Then you have to see what level (camp) is best for you. They go in increments of 10. Keep in mind that the quest you undertake can also be increased in difficulty (opposition’s monster level) at the destination camp's Aetheryte(crystal looking thingy). You may chose up to 8 quests at a time in any combination of camp/class/area you wish.
A few people will tell new players,"just do XYZ" With little regards to explaining what XYZ is. So, for further assistance check out some more info on Leves
PS. As long as you are at a camp, check out the Behest quests (camp's level +5) from the local Battlewarden ^_^b

I wish I had known about all the text commands.
I kept clicking on everything although it's terribly inconvenient.
On the Lodestone is a list of text commands which let you do emotes, join or leave parties, change your settings, etc. and they are incredibly useful to avoid clicking through many obsolete menues![]()
To add someone to party, capitalize the names lol. /pcmd add "Alonzo Vivas"
Also, equip macros are a real time saver. They are under Config, macros. So for like a felt hat I would use the line /equip head "Felt Hat" items need to be in caps and if it is more then one word in quotation marks. Use a macro list to equip entire sets and change jobs. Also they changed main and sub to mh and oh.

Saw this in another thread. Knew it deserved a redirect ^^As someone who started about a month ago, I'll tell you what I wish I knew when I was worried about gil and how I'd eventually gear up.
When you start doing the Lv10+ leves, you make about 2000-4000 gil instead of like 200 gil per leve. Also, around levels 10 or 15, a bunch of side quests start opening up in all the cities, and more pop every 5ish levels. Do these quests, they're soloable, and they award low level gear. For things the quests don't get you, you'll probably have enough gil to buy things off the mercantile house. Oh, and keep up on your main story quest, and ASAP get on Company quests, as they both award tons of gil, eventually in the hundreds of thousands.
