It's time for an Ala Mhigan revamp or restoration.

It gets jarring seeing how bad the city-state looks compared to everything else. With the next expansion having us visit Illsabard more, it's a great time to actually give Ala Mhigo the time it deserves cause sheeeesh, I think it's a unanimous agreement it got SUPER shafted in StB!

    I STILL BELIEVE.

I also still believe. Ala Mhigo deserves to be a regular visit-able city state hub.

I find it really funny to a degree how much fuss was being made about liberating Ala Mhigo and then it just becomes a isolated corner with absolutely no infrastructure, marketboard, retainer bells or anything else except of being a "go talk to Lyse or Raubahn Point" in the Game.

It is almost as if the entire Town, serves as a place of Exile for unwanted Characters that are too stubborn to die. Maybe that's where all the Salt from the Area truly comes from.

I’d rather see us rebuild Garlemald.

It doesn’t have to be a rather than mentality. We can have both. Garlemald, Ala Mhigo, and Doma are tied together in the story. They can all go through changes together. If we ever get any future restorations for Ala Mhigo and Garlemald, I would be strongly opposed if they weren’t involved in the story. It will add to the depth of the character arcs.

For a Garlean Restoration, Ala Mhigans, and Domans would have to be the story.

For an Ala Mhigo Restoration, Garleans, and Domans have to be in the story. Doman is obviously empathetic by default, and would be somewhat tame. It would be more on the strengthened allies factor. Garleans would bring out the tensions, and difficulties of getting over the effects of war. It would be a story about making old enemies into new friends, and finding ways forward that were once seemingly impossible.

The same with Garlemald. If we suddenly built it back up for its citizens, I do not doubt that Domans, and Ala Mhigans will have a say about it. They already weren't the happiest that we went to Garlemald to help the population anyway. That should absolutely be explored. Perhaps the restoration could be one big restoration of the realm. They could start in Ala Mhigo, fix up a few more things in Doma, and then move on to Garlmald for the final part. I can already think of things to do.

    Yanxia/Doma:

Fix the Western and Eastern Ryuran Bridges. Cull/Move enemy mobs. Fix several broken walls. Clear out damage from the war. Rebuild broken buildings for villagers and soldiers to occupy. Perhaps we could get an INSTANCED housing reward for completing the phase hm? I know a lot of people that are dying to live in Doma, and the Enclave would be a great fit. Old Doma proper might have to be left alone, but it would be cool if they just made the Enclave a little bigger, and have some repairs for the Yanxia zone itself that you have to be further along in the story to see. Part of me thinks that it would be cool if it got the Limsa Lominsa treatment, and had structures built into the upper cliffs of the enclave. Imagine houses, and structures built along the sides of a spiraling staircase/platforms going upward. Would also love to see new guilds added down the road. Like a restored Geomancers guild, and a new guild for Ninja. Imagine if they showed us a brand new Ninja headquarters. I know that's kind of the House of the fierce, but they never really showed us much of this in the quests. It doesn't even have to be tied to the quests, just give it some flavor for Ninja players to admire. Perhaps also show some Doman Samurai NPCs training. I want to see Doma getting back on its feet.

    Gyr Albania/Ala Mhigo:

Fix the statues outside of Ala Mhigo proper. No more statues with their heads blown off. We need the real whole thing. It doesn't effect the players much, so would be one of the easiest things to add without affecting gameplay. There's a curved plaza that you can see from outside of Ala Mhigo if you look from above. This should be the aetherite plaza in the instanced city proper. I would also recommend adding a new housing ward in addition to instanced housing, because It would be neat to have a ward in every major city hub in Eorzea. Instanced housing is a must though.

Also add a new monk headquarters, and show the monks restored. I want to see npcs training, and getting their monk history back. The monk order is one of the coolest things in Final Fantasy XIV, but has very little development on the concept, despite being such a big deal in Ala Mhigo. Perhaps tie it into the quests.

As for towns outside of Ala Mhigo, restore them. Give them more things to interact with, and make them feel busier again. Ala Ghiri is one of the best examples of this. The city is BEAUTIFUL, but you can't do anything in it. None of the buildings are open. Change that. Give it some purpose.

    Garlemald:

I can't think of much, because it doesn't exist yet, but I'd really like to see the Magna Glaces added as a zone (it was pretty neat imo), and for the people of Garlemald to commemorate all that they have done wrong. Therefore, If I were to erect a newly repaired section of the city, I would focus on building monuments to the city states they did wrong to. There would be a square with statues for each city state that they invaded. Doma, Ala Mhigo, Corvos, Bozja, Whatever Nagxia is called, Landis, etc. What would be interesting is in building this statue, the citizens that are left would have to deal with the fact that they did wrong, and the nation was flawed. I just think some sort of giant memorial plaza is a brilliant way to convey story telling, and turn a page for a new country. Not to mention it would be a fun goal for crafters and gatherers. I'd also love it if we could see the flags for all these nations in one place. As a way of commemorating peace. It would be beautiful, and with the roman influences on the statues, I think it could be an incredible sight to behold.

We absolutely NEED instanced housing for this area as well. I think it would go a long way to keeping the game moving forward in ways that it needs to go to make it fair. Don't forget the new areas for npcs that bring flavor to the game however. I know its a wish that we get Garlemalds version of the gunblade, and so such a place for its soldiers should absolutely be a thing. As well as their take on medicine. I don't believe they heal in the same ways that Eorzeans, and Easterners do.

I'm glad this joke isn't just between my friends and I. All that salt is from me, I'm the Lochs-ness monster.

I really wish it became a true City-State spot on the map, given how much work we put into liberating it and how its history cast a shadow in ARR and HW and leading up to the end of SB.

As others have said, if we're doing more with Ilsabard in 7.0, Ala Mhigo is on the border with it, well-suited as a base to:

    * provide respite before caravans to Garlemald's territories to rebuild
    * provide a staging point before [anywhere new in Ilsabard we get to go not under Garlean control]
    * why not have Thavnair start a trade with them? They have a space on the map that could become or be a small seaport, and Thavnair along the Ilsabardian coast to Ala Mhigo could allow AM to trade out their salt and minerals for Thavnairian spices and alchemical materials and maybe benefit both, since Thavnair is devastated post Final Days and needs rebuilding, and Ala Mhigo has hardy survivors people who need jobs and could go help out

What exactly is supposed to be getting restored?

Almost the entire region was desolate for centuries if you're trying to imagine some ecological change should occur. Gyr Abania was a nation of merchants and mercenaries because that was the only way it could survive.

The city is intact. The Garlean takeover was described as near bloodless if I remember correctly because Gyr Abania was already in turmoil due to mad Theodoric.

Ala Mhigo isn't in a separate instance from the Lochs so it can't be restored Doman Enclave style. Even Doman Enclave never got a marketboard or inn (though it does have the Summoning Bell).

Restoring the trade routes that were developed over many years in the first place isn't something that's going to happen overnight, and certainly not within the couple of months that have passed since its liberation (SE deciding all of the games events have happened within the space of a year was a dumb move unless one Etheirys year is equal to 5 Earth years).

It would be nice to see more NPCs moving around in Ala Mhigo but that's really the only change that would make sense.
