Why don't you replace them with mediums and ditch the smalls entirely?

Really that's my only gripe. They make no sense
I can't speak for others, but I think smalls are quite cozy. I've been bidding exclusively on smalls since the bidding process began. It low-key pisses me off that FC wards have had hundreds of smalls available for a month that I'm not allowed to purchase, and the FCs that don't want them (right now) are just sort of treating them like backup plans and the devs are fine with this.
But yeah I agree with the rest of your post. In my ideal world, you'd just buy a plot and then upgrade it over time kind of like in Animal Crossing. FC homes could really have fun with this mechanic because everyone in the guild could work together to boost the house.

This system as a whole just sucks honestly.

Honestly Small Houses are kind of nice for those people who enjoy lofting. It's a small investment, and small houses have just enough space to get many of the things you want, but are *lacking* enough in space that you need to get creative to get what you want. Because of that, I think small houses have the most uniqueness in their design by and large because you *can't* just slap down a few items and call it a day.

I felt like the medium and large were too large to decorate without a lot of empty space. Plus I didn't want to spend a lot of money.
    Same for me.

I didn't have much gil, I had around 15 million which wasn't enough to get a medium and sufficiently decorate it.

I won a small in Empyreum shortly after the district opened and I've managed to decorate it to my satisfaction within said budget.

I was trying for small lots every lottery. Last round over 470 bids on a small so clearly others would be happy with it too.

You can decorate indoors and outdoors. You get full access to gardening. You even minimize how much Gil you lose if you end up not maintaining it or decide housing isn't what you hoped it would be... plenty of justifications for small lots. Not to mention everyone has different amounts of time they can, or are willing to invest in game. That makes Gil availability vastly different player to player. Not to mention server to server diffences..different...

What issue does a small lot cause? It adds more diversity to the ward having different sizes and style homes. It also doesn't cause the problems people are having finding a house which is just overall supply. That won't change unless they demolish current units and up prices to make it cost prohibitive to all the excess home seekers (terrible idea to alienate people further) or add more wards.
