It's obvious that Square wouldn't want weapons overlapping between jobs (new job with a hammer/bow probably won't happen)
The only two I could see them adding that are vaguely similar to older jobs are a dual wielding job that uses regular swords, instead of the NIN "daggers" and maybe a dual-gun job that's not steampunk like MCH is.
Other than that the new jobs could have a Whip, Mace or a Crossbow... again, not a lot of options left unless they come up with something new like with SGE/AST

"Nemo me impune lacessit."
I like the vampire whip suggestion, perhaps it could be our first holy theme'd DD job too which would fit an extra level of newness to the game (beyond whatever gimmick of combat). And not the frilly purty holy but more like vengeful, wrathful, old testament holy lol, though maybe you could include other color if it was also vampire theme inspired (like light layers of blood magic, other some other interesting combination of holy and aggressive theme... though avoid too much similarity to Dark Knight, Reaper, and Black Mage.. would be nice to hit upon a new visual style given you've the trifecta in those colors). Some sort of Demon Hunter job.
Plus with the whip suggestion you can have a lot of variations, like I've seen chains a few times in here. Depending on how they feel it could incorperate a lot of stretchy like ideas, say like a flail imagery with the chain growing on attacks, but then a classic rope whip, to the cross whip seen in Alacarn's post.

From Yoshida himself, also 2 DPS was dumb according to him too. So there you go, and no I'm not going to pull up year old quotes.
I know it's easy to say after the fact, but I also predicted SHB's Tank+RDPS and EW's MDPS+Healer. All you have to do is look forward to predict this, they're not going to make other roles wait any longer than 2 expansions. Like if we get double DPS in 7.0 that'd mean healers will have to wait 3 expansions for a new toy because a spot is always reserved for DPS and they're not going to do a Tank+Healer expansion, so that's a big no no.
It's always going to rotate between 1 melee Tank/MDPS and one role that hasn't gotten something new past 2 expansions.
Whips could be versatile.
Between plain old ones to serrated whips, metals etc.
Another one could be 1 handed weapon with something like shield etc.
In FFXII i know archadian characters such Ghis and Larsa use a sword with a fan/smaller thing.
Or plain 2 medium/large swords.
Why's everyone like whips so much? Chains are cooler.
Me want hammers, me want to Unga Bunga with a hammer. My husband and I were talking about what weapons we'd like to see in the future. Not necessarily a discussion about what jobs that we might see in the future but specifically the weapons used. Thinking back on weapons that have been seen in past final fantasy games, Id love to see a whip, the double sided sword that zidane used in 9, Selphies Nunchaku. It would be interesting to see if they could make the Rackets or Bells not comical.
What are something you'd like to see.
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
Well Gaia is technically an Oracle so it might not be a perfect imitation of her (I also think "Oracle" has been given special plot relevance and is unlikely to appear as a job).I had thought of a two handed hammer, like Gaia, for a green mage, that was the inverse of RDM. While Red's tend to stay at ranged and close in for their big rotation, a magical pseudo-melee job that does more close range damage and then "jumps" out for their big rotation, would be a fun idea and not something that we really have to my knowledge.
But yes, you get the idea. Again I think, to help distinguish from WAR, it would likely have a lighter two-handed "mallet". One that it can still wield two-handed for heavy hits, but that it can still twirl around one handed like a staff for some more distinct animations.
