Taishi Ci Dynasty Warriors seriesWell Gaia is technically an Oracle so it might not be a perfect imitation of her (I also think "Oracle" has been given special plot relevance and is unlikely to appear as a job).
But yes, you get the idea. Again I think, to help distinguish from WAR, it would likely have a lighter two-handed "mallet". One that it can still wield two-handed for heavy hits, but that it can still twirl around one handed like a staff for some more distinct animations.
A compromise of Dual Rods?

"Nemo me impune lacessit."
I think that's a totally different concept, but one I think has potential for *some* kind of job design.
Though we would need a different term to name them than "rods". FFXIV is very consistent about compartmentalizing name conventions across jobs.
ranged flail would be cool that does melee damage. animation would probably be tricky as you would have to make the chains move like chains. So a whip would be easier but would have to be magic based to make sense... Maybe a beast tamer with a whip weapon would fit.My husband and I were talking about what weapons we'd like to see in the future. Not necessarily a discussion about what jobs that we might see in the future but specifically the weapons used. Thinking back on weapons that have been seen in past final fantasy games, Id love to see a whip, the double sided sword that zidane used in 9, Selphies Nunchaku. It would be interesting to see if they could make the Rackets or Bells not comical.
What are something you'd like to see.
I mean it wouldnt be to hard to animate, except maybe tricks like whip cracks and trips, but simple aoe and single target strikes wouldnt necessarily be that hard to model. Plus FF has a long history of making weapons out of exotic unique materials. I would imagine chain flails, meteor hammers, urumi, cat o 9 tails, etc could all fall under whips. Kinda like how dragoons weapons range from spears, glaives, tridents etc or monks have claws, tonfa, knuckles and gaunlets
I'd honestly dig dual-wielding large, one-handed axes. Kind of like the Berserker in Black Desert Online, just super savage-looking animations and maybe even leaping around the battlefield.
I also love the one poster's idea of a "Lantern" or something.
I also wouldn't minds just a one-handed scimitar as its own weapon type. Presumably for a "Mystic Knight" sort of job, combing a scimitar with some sort of lunar-based magic.
I still want a dual wielding sword class like FFXI blue mage. My dream is that if we ever get a Corvos expansion they add a take on Mystic Knight or Rune Fencer or what have you, and make it something aesthetically inspired by the Islamic pirates. Dual wield scimitars/cutlasses and be able to cast spells like Water as a spellblade.
Other than that, a real musical instrument class. Some sort of string instrument, could be a harp or a lute, or a wind instrument of some sort. In an ideal world we'd have brd and arc as separate jobs that use pure harps and pure bows instead of the stupid ass harp bows we have now. Or fans, like actual fans for fan dances. I'm also still salty that we didn't get the melee healer everyone dreamed of that used a dagger and throwing potions. Also since rpr wasn't the puppetmaster we thought it would be on the preview, it would be nice to have a job that uses some sort of summoning device with which a large puppet avatar (think Granblue's Orchid) attacks for you, for every damaging ability (maybe not support stuff) so it's less of a pet class and more of a visual effect.
Also, I agree with previous in posts in here that we need O R B. "Oracle" could make an interesting healer or support caster concept, that might overlap with ast but I don't care I want to be able to ponder the orb for all my combat needs.
Whips brings to mind the whip used by Ferry in Granblue, it has a dagger on the end. That's big potential for interesting job design I feel.My husband and I were talking about what weapons we'd like to see in the future. These ones sound gorgeous, the dangling pendants in particular could be such an aesthetically pleasing concept
- Lantern connected to another object via chain, lantern in one hand chain weapon in the other, usually sharp object like spiked ball, scythe, crystal needle, etc. Used by a soul mage, occult, witch, eldritch, not black theme dark job (so like reds and blues, black is okay but more to the tendrils, crows, etc than black mage, dark knight and reaper). Think the necromancer bone, curse, and soul magic from Diablo games (though I'm not saying it has to be literally that, just color schemes). Blood mage potentially.
- Also above like jobs, pendant / charm that wraps around the hand and dangles out like crosses (and magical sigils as another variation), as well as three or so phylactery like objects that float in different locations based on the type. Some akin to the blood mage in Warcraft, other juggled behind similar to sage, or above their hand floating. (The visuals of the essence orbs can have variations from floating lost soul like effect, will-o-wisp, others might be empty crystal balls, both changing special effects based on your resources). So if blood mage the crystal balls might be empty and as your resource increases fill and vibrate with an extra sfx, the lost souls would glow fiery.
Tank that dual wields giant magitek shields like the cape westwind guy
