I think this is the right approach to future job predictions, as I have observed in other threads that FFXIV job design is very centered around having a unique weapon template and animations for each job, each job has a subset of weapon terms that only it gets to use (with a very small number of exceptions, most of which come from very early ARR), and weapon glamours are a core appeal of gameplay.
My best guesses for future jobs weapons:
* Blitzball - Likely accompanying a slight Scouting rework. Extremely likely after GNB because of being *the* archetypal FFX job with three characters and a minigame to pull ideas from. And we don't have an "athlete" job archetype, so the design space is generally untouched.
* Whip - Flails, Scourges, Chains, Tails, Hooks, Claws, Morningstars -- just a very open design space at the moment. Could be dual whips. Could have a weight at the end. Something whippy is very likely. I also suspect this would be the Trainer/BST job, because why else would it have not been used for BLU when they had the chance?
* Mallet - I don't think we will get a Greathammer/Warhammer job since that maps too cleanly onto WAR, but I do think we could get a slightly lighter two-handed mallet/gavel (mace, sledge, etc.) job for a Green Mage. Make the head of the hammer the a crystal focus as a kind of inverse to RDM's sword-pommel focus.
I don't think we are as likely to get a dual-wield sword job so much as a dual-wield Judge job, where the staves can have any combination of swords, axes, maces, etc. etc. We already have five sword jobs, and I don't expect the devs will waste an opportunity to feature more unique weapon designs AND a popular FFXII archetype on just swords. This also gels with the idea that Judge really wants to be a tank job, and giving it a wider variety of options than swords would help distinguish it more. The only obstacle I see to for Judge is the weapon terms it would use, but I think like Gunbreaker (Manatrigger) and Reaper (Crux) they could scrape together a few unique names.
Other throwaway ideas: Reflector/Mirror Illusionist/Shaman Caster. Cannon Corsair/Alchemist Pranged.

I had thought of a two handed hammer, like Gaia, for a green mage, that was the inverse of RDM. While Red's tend to stay at ranged and close in for their big rotation, a magical pseudo-melee job that does more close range damage and then "jumps" out for their big rotation, would be a fun idea and not something that we really have to my knowledge.* Mallet - I don't think we will get a Greathammer/Warhammer job since that maps too cleanly onto WAR, but I do think we could get a slightly lighter two-handed mallet/gavel (mace, sledge, etc.) job for a Green Mage. Well Gaia is technically an Oracle so it might not be a perfect imitation of her (I also think "Oracle" has been given special plot relevance and is unlikely to appear as a job).I had thought of a two handed hammer, like Gaia, for a green mage, that was the inverse of RDM. But yes, you get the idea. Again I think, to help distinguish from WAR, it would likely have a lighter two-handed "mallet". One that it can still wield two-handed for heavy hits, but that it can still twirl around one handed like a staff for some more distinct animations.

A compromise of Dual Rods?

"Nemo me impune lacessit."

I think that's a totally different concept, but one I think has potential for *some* kind of job design.
Though we would need a different term to name them than "rods". FFXIV is very consistent about compartmentalizing name conventions across jobs.

I would very much like to see a dual wielding chain job, with a splish-splash of martial arts. The weapons can be hooks, spike balls, spearheads, claws, and yo-yos XD. I'd bet they could pull off a chain job, considering Erichthonios.

I wonder what the options for a "send and retrieve" sort of weapon would be. The inspiration I'm thinking of is the spear in Hades, where you send it out for one hit and then when you call it back, it hits again (usually backstabbing the enemy for extra damage). I could imagine some interesting movement/positional scenarios with something like that, but idk how it would work in an expanded fashion.
A boomerang could be cute too, although might be too similar to dancer...
More Hades inspiration: a shield as a primary weapon? Shield bashes, bull rushes, etc.?

Most of the typical weapons are already in the game. I don't know what other jobs can be added, but some of the weapons they can add could be:
-Mazes. Typical weapons for Cleric in western RPGs, in this game can be for a healer or a new Caster.
-Dual Swords or Dual Axes. Maybe a new Melee class.
-Bells. A weapon usually wield by the FF class Geomancer, another potential caster class. In Dark Souls, bells are for Miracles and Curses, can go for that too.
-Hammers or Giant clubs. A tank or a melee DPS can use this.
-Rackets, not the tennis ones, but the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles ones. Maybe way too cartoon, but could work for a melee class.
-Dual guns, like Yuna from Final Fantasy X or Sazh Katzroy form Final Fantasy XIII, for a new physical ranged DPS.
-Whips. I am not sure what class can do this. Maybe Beast master, but that would sound like a limited class, since Yoshida said that pet classes are a pain in the ass and don't want more. Maybe a Exorcist/Demon Hunter class, something inspired in Castlevania Belmont clan.
-Puppets and/or Dolls: Puppet master as class or something similar that uses puppets or dolls to attack. Can be done without need to be a pet class. Just similar to summoner you can rotate your dolls and that. But maybe, would be too similar to summoner this way.
-Whatever weapon she is using, like a half moon blade. However she is a Witch, so, a melee caster or semi-melee like Red mage, who knows.
Of course there are a lot of weapons, but the way too add it, I have no idea.

I've never understood why ff14 thinks pet classes are a pain. They have a companion system that functions perfectly and you could use that as a base for a pet class. Have your standard rotation pieces, the 123 and aoes, and have a pet that does an auto basic attack, and the ogcd's be the special commands for the pet. Its like they want to reinvent the wheel and create a whole new way of doing pet jobs, but in reality the wheel is fine. give us the wheel and make it sparkly lol. Most of the typical weapons are already in the game. I would guess that this will be a double dps expansion, 1 for magical ranged and 1 for physical, considering they are the 2 roles with the fewest full jobs and we got a healer in EW and a tank in ShadowBringer. And a physical ranged that shares armor with ninja that uses a whip could be a lot of fun. I find the phys range works like a bullseye. Bard and Machinist work best at outter mid to long range, I find dancer works best midrange or closer to melee, a whip class that works within the midrange could be fun. A build like Belmont would be a great basis.
