I agree with the OP that they could be implemented. I like the idea of them being consumable items that are difficult to use but can be used by everyone. Maybe limit them to party-wide, single uses with a long cast time. This could prevent these items from nerfing content.
I could also see them made into a limited duty item like the "Vril" in Lakshmi. This option could be toggled on/off in the duty finder for some content. This would be less fun but better than nothing I suppose.
Definitely agree.
Let's remember the main reason they refused Savage dungeons was that it "put too much pressure on the healer" not to die. This change would basically fix that.

I think they should be stackable. Just take the normal long rez cast time to use with a 10 minute cooldown. Make the rez cast instant but on a charge system with a 2 minute cooldown. Resets in case of a wipe party. Non-healers with rez spells only get one charge, including blue mage.
This is a really good suggestion and with some restrictions for highend content it would be impossible to abuse in any way while also giving the devs the possibility to make a healer a necessity for every party without punishing the party if the healer died instead of ensuring that everyone is perfectly fine without one in case the healer makes a mistake.
Laying there while the party is completely fine without you is just adding insult to injury after dying to something from making a mistake.
And giving such an iconic FF item an actual use would be nice.
Another option would be to give all healers a re-raise with a long cooldown and put similar restrictions on it that it either can't be used at all in endgame or only as a once-per-fight thing. Because from what I've seen the devs are quite stubborn when it comes to making any consumable as uninteresting as humanly possible so nobody feels pressured to have them - even if you get them literally for free.
Yes please! I'm always up for changes to the way recovery items work in this game and it'd be really nice to have Phoenix Down actually be useful in battles.![]()

When i got that for the first time in this game, i was excited since i didn't have any healing\rez job and thought i could use at open areas only to learn that you can't use at players that are not in your party plus not in combat and can only keep one, making a waste of inventory space.
Only good for deep dungeon but still dissapointing...
The only actual consumable that i use and never sell are the HQ Max Potions you keep getting in PotD: those potions heal well for ARR\HW content and have a shorter cooldown than Second Wind. So it is weird phoenix downs just feel meh.

Oh I sell them. But that's because I have a stack of 999 and I don't want to dedicate more than one inventory slot to them.![]()

Just removing the unique tag would be enough to make them actually worth carrying.
