So instead of each world having an even split of 24 wards, we could have Materia just have 6 wards each while Balmung could have 42 wards for example.

At one time Mateus' housing was seriously underpopulated. These days it's just as congested as Balmung.

While Square does differentiate configuration at the DC level they have shown no interest in running worlds any different from others even if it was just a configuration option. In other words, expect every world to be run as a carbon copy of another.

The advantage of the previous system was that due to the agony of the system, you were competing against far fewer individuals for your house. The huge disadvantage was that it took a lot of time and it really hurt my wrist. The convenience of the lotto system is a big plus...but I'm honestly not expecting to ever win the house size I desire due to the demand versus supply. Jojoya hit the nail on the head. Until they fix the supply, personal housing in this game will remain one of the worst implemented features.

The lottery system is severely flawed, even worse than the old system. The only upside to the lottery system is that you don't have to spam click on vacated plots but the upsides end there. Supply does not meet demand so once Ishgard is completely taken and there are no plots left it'll be like a swarm of koi fish fighting over bread. 30+ people bidding on the same plot reducing overall chances for winning by a severe amount. Your chances were much greater at getting a house with the old system and that's an inarguable fact. I think several months down the road people will see that. Squeenix has to do something to solve the housing crisis in this game. We're not a niche MMO anymore.

Sorry the old way of buying was so much worse, but yeah the supply and demand chain needs to be fixed.

Fact is the more active and aged the account the more likely you will win.

Facts with no proof are not facts. There might be a reason older players have more houses than newer players... they bought them when there was no competition.
