Protect and Shell (Rarely ever cast separately, one or the other being a drain of MP. Putting them together was more MP and time efficient.)
Having three of the same spell was most definitely redundant. You had so many of the same spell that you couldn't fit all of the spells you earned on the action bar.
That's only the mages. If you include cross classing abilities like Ferocity and Raging Strike they were practically the same thing. Trimming the fat from all classes by creating a base skills and abilities that scale with your level progression keeps old abilities (like Cure I and Fire I etc.) from becoming useless while still leaving room for an eventual level cap raise for more interesting and unique abilities later on. I was apprehensive at first and I still believe that they should open up the classes to being able to equip everything that you've rightfully learned but it was by far the smartest move they made to making the game more fun while still keeping it strategic.
This really is the beginning though as the cap is still only 50. I'm excited to see the classes/jobs develop as the game matures. I'm also excited to see new class abilities and how they can be utilized on the original seven classes.
I'll be expecting cookies Ant.
