Parsing is good for the sake of personal improvement, but I dislike the fact the FFLogs is an "opt out" service as opposed to "opt in" as it draws a lot more negative scrutiny from people then it would otherwise.
It creates skewed performance metrics when you have people who are not actively logging and having parses inconsistently uploaded by others regardless of how good/bad they are vs. people in statics who are actively logging but can choose to omit runs where they made mistakes or did worse that they felt comfortable showing. The latter is inherently going to look better even if in practice their actual average performance is identical.

I understand that to have enough samples for data, they pretty well need the logs themselves to be "opt out" rather than "opt in," but... why not at least have them be anonymous by default (until that, at least, is opted in)? The feature's right there; why wasn't it made the baseline? /sigh

If they intend to allow people to choose whether or not they want to be part of the website and minimize toxicity at the same time, you don't slap a big sign on their profile that says "This person is hiding their logs" like a mark of shame, you ghost them entirely and don't allow them to be searched or have their name show up at all.
To be fair, even that wouldn't do, as their logs not showing up would be equally a "mark of shame". It'd have to read instead as something like "This player has not yet claimed their logs or has not yet allowed you to follow them."That's what I don't understand.

I realize that sounds like setting the website as a whole to "opt out" by default, and from a player search perspective it is; the difference is merely that the anonymized logs are still available to fflogs' body of data for larger-sample class-comparison metrics and the like.
Time to embrace em :3
Wheres my WeakAuras?! Pitbull?! Quartz?!
I think people throwing a fit over mods, etc. are very much wasting their energy ^^
We all live in this together, so be nicer to one another!

If you think need to use third party programs to have edge over others just don't tell anyone or stream them being used. Just don't complain when you get caught using them.
