Right my bad I wasn't clear enough. Or you just missed some fragments of my first post because I clearly stated what I'm not comfortable is the idea of players putting their PERSONAL damage above else. It's an extreme case but I wouldn't put it above some people to actively ignore mechanics or damage just so they can pump out their numbers even if that would make entire experience less fun for others and then act as if the fact they hit the highest damage absolve them from critique. I'm aware it's a stretch for some and fortunately never seen it happen here. But I've seen it enough times.Damage checks being more lenient still means that damage is the endgoal, because they are still damage checks.
In the end, because you want enemy HP to drop to 0 before yours does, damage is always the endgoal. This game doesn't support/utiliize other methods or an alternative focus for clearing an encounter.
Imagine making "E8s week1" types dps check and not having a parser in your game![]()
Just going to throw my (maybe unpopular) two cents here: insulting or harassing people because of their dps is toxic, but not wanting raid certain content with people because of their dps is not.
I wont scream “that’s toxic!” when i cant join a pf because it’s “lala only 24 man”, so why do so people get triggered when they see a “barse party”?
Honestly the enrage timers are already incredibly forgiving as they are.Ironically it's the game design itself thay creates the toxicity. If fights did not have hard enrages then people would care less about DPS. It's hard to say not filter by not making a DPS check when the content itself is designed around a DPS check.
I've played MMOs that did not have hard enrages, and the focus on DPS was much less than it is here, a game where DPS determines if you can clear the content.
Basically if Yoshi-p thinks measuring DPS creates toxicity, then they should take a long look in the mirror at their encounter design.
In FFXIV I think this is less of a DPS issue and more of a '' don't die too much '' issue.
Especially with essentially infinite ress in FFXIV, enrage timers are kinda necessary to not make it complete faceroll.
DPS is so much less important to me than people staying alive, which is the reason why we don't kill 99% of the time.
Everyone staying alive the whole fight and the boss not dying is pretty rare and usually people who stay alive are also better players hence do more damage.
Exhausting when the argument is about the dps number itself and not the log attached to it. That's the juicy information you want.
tell me you haven't done savage week 1 without telling me you haven't done savage week 1Honestly the enrage timers are already incredibly forgiving as they are.

So you're telling me that if everyone survives the whole fight and is properly geared with food buffs etc then enrage timer will be an issue?
Do you think that people who don't know how to play their Job will survive the whole fight week 1?
Do you think that people who do it week 1 don't know what ACT parsing is and don't already use it?
You're not talking about the people who others are saying would benefit from a DPS meter.
You're talking about people who already very likely use the software and worrying too much about DPS is still not the big issue it's going to be surviving and learning mechanics.
Edit: No I didn't do the tier on week 1 I got into it very late because I put it off and was lazy about it.
But people who beat it on week 1 and made guides said themselves that the enrage timers were very forgiving in this tier.
I am going to trust what they say.
