progression, the feeling of improvement. currently i feel like i've hit a wall with that tho. the only place left for me to go is extreme and higher and that's a skill set that i'm not super interested in mastering. dungeons have always been more engaging for me, especially with the changes to tanks (warrior specifically) allowing them to more or less solo heal wall-to-wall pulls in dungeons. it's a mix of proactive and reactive but it feels much faster in the moment-to-moment than raids or trials
I appreciate that the game doesn't demand 100% of your free time. I didn't realize it at first, but it's really nice to be able to step away and play something else, come back for the next major patch and be caught up in a day or two. Which is what I'd recommend if you're feeling burnt out. While there is a lot to do in FFXIV, it's not designed to fuel obsession. Play at your pace, come back when you find something you want to do, and otherwise just do what you enjoy.
Thanks for all the responses! It's definitely given me a lot to consider, especially when it comes to taking breaks as long as I may need or if I feel the need to jump off, just do so. I know those things are obvious to some, but man! I love the game and want to keep engaging with it, but that may also, for me be detrimental if I do too much.
Appreciate it folks!
Not much tbh.
I still feel the obligation to cap the 450 weekly tomestones, and do the weekly raid, but can't explain why, lmao.
I already got all classes to 90 and I only need to craft a few more tools to be up to date with my crafting. I'll be taking a rest from the game soon.
Medium house, getting all jobs to 90, pvp, savage, glam, alts, tomes, friends, and MSQ are a few reasons why I still play.
I like Overpower like how I like my ice cream served, as a cone.
I'd be lying if I said anything.
I have a house but honestly don't care about it.
I have friends but I can just talk with them on Discord.
Glamours are nice but considering I'm a Hrothgar, I'm limited to anything that looks nice without a hat.
My favorite role, Healers, plays like absolute dogshit after years of neglect and I can't really enjoy gameplay since my role is so dull.
Story wise? Endwalker was a disappointment to me and while the 6.1 storyline seems interesting, I don't really feel like paying for story every 4 months so I've cancelled my sub and will check back in at 7.0 to see if Healer gameplay improves and if not, I'll enjoy the 6.2-7.0 story content all in one go instead and continue on like that until either the game or I dies off.
what keeps me playing? the fact I paid money for it. things have not been improved so far (and actually gotten worse) so i'm thinking of moving onto something else after my sub expired.
The MSQ
Personal Goals/Grinds
Investment and interest in the world and lore
That primal dopamine drip of seeing a number go up
