My Father-in-Law started playing the game a few months ago. I saw he had no minion following him and asked if he knew how it worked/wanted a specific one. He replied "I don't want one, they're distracting" which I said was a valid, but then he immediately follows up with "However, the Fat Cat..."
Turns he both liked that it only moves when you do (obedient) and that when it idles, the rolling on it's side was hilarious. I offered to buy him one, but no, he wanted his OWN that he earned, and so began the retainer grind. Yesterday there's a new text in our family group chat showing his newly acquired Fat Cat. It feels like forever since he started trying to get one that everyone congratulated him like he'd just won the lottery.
I'm happy for you, Dad. I can't wait to /handover it the next time our paths cross in-game.
This is wholesome af. I'm sure our lord and savior Fat Cat approves wholeheartedly. My Father-in-Law started playing the game a few months ago. That your father in law plays is surprising enough. (though I guess in 2022 it's more common unlike the old days)My Father-in-Law started playing the game a few months ago. But that there's a family group where he can post it and everyone understands is much more impressive.
Fatter Cat is soooooo thicc when Roe ride it. I have some potatoes at JP surprised and petted the mount when Roe riding Fatter Cat![]()
I do not think anyone has mentioned this yet, but a while back I remember someone giving an entire break down of The Fattest Cat (EXTREME). The whole fight they posted was absolutely amazing.

It's definitely surprising when I grew up in a household where no one besides my brother and I would touch a game console. Everyone in my spouse's immediate family plays video games as a hobby so the whole family eventually moved to FFXIV. My FiL specifically only started playing because he's been at RuneScape for 10+ years and finally got bored of it. He's currently 2 dungeons away from Endwalker and spends most of his time gathering/crafting. We have to help him get through Trials/Dungeons fairly often as the amount of AOEs on the screen can be too much for him to follow, but he's getting better all the time!
