I only mention rank and victories as a qualifier that I’m a decent pvper and that I didn’t win streak to Crystal in a day. That being said I’m not keen on the consistent insistence of a “cheating epidemic.” You’ve seen it; The excuse that finds its way into the seeming endless diatribe threads that, to experienced pvp players (from any game) essentially translates to “I just started pvping and I’m not crystal tier yet, therefor it’s definitely not that I’m not as good as I insist I am, but rather that SE sucks, there’s a cheating conspiracy and where’s my participation trophy naming me the greatest of all time.”
Especially when I consider that in over 1000 matches, (ballpark 30 bronze, 40 silver, 30 gold, 20 plat, 200 diamond and 650 crystal matches) I haven’t witnessed a single instance that had even this whiff of impropriety.
.
I’m not saying cheating is not there; but I know what to look for if it is and Using “cheating” as an uncontrollable epidemic to justify why one can get out of platinum, disincentivizes potential players from getting into what I personally think is the only element of ff14 worth it’s salt (after an initial savage clear, you lose me. Next week it’s gonna be exactly the same as the first fight.)
Personal preference aside, and trying my best in earnest not to gas anyone up, I thought that anyone considering taking a crack pvp ought to hear from someone very active in CC that in my experience on crystal DC, cheating is so negligible, that out of myself and the 63 other people in our pvp cwls, no one has been witness to anything so blatant that they vocalized it; either in game or in discord.
Tier systems work to a degree. It’s the best approach to ranked pvp for an accurate representation of skill level. It’s needs work, for sure. To start, de-ranking needs to be a thing asap. But, there’s fundamental merit, albeit quite limited, to the current tier system
The matchmaking needs work, sure. Jobs need tweaks, and purify / resilience is begging for attention, no doubt. But the unfortunate truth for the salt slingers is that we all face the same odds re: match ups, trollers, bad parties. If ANY of it were a chronic enough issue, no one would make it to crystal within a given season.
99.9% of the time, it’s just someone that thinks they’re a lot better than they are and would rather dear diary their lack of talent before they admit to themselves that they just aren’t very good.
It’s taken a long time to peak this much interest in PvP and I’d hate to see a single potential challenger bail on giving it a shot because some beta @ an led rainbow keyboard doesn’t realize that they just suck.
