It does make question me just how "dead" the likes of Diabolos and other powerful voidsent are considering that destroying their vessels would not necessarily destroy their souls and other instances of killing voidsent refer to it as simply "banishing them back to the void".

For Diabolos specifically the answer seems to be 'he's probably alive', given that he seemed to get dragged into the Diablo Armament in the Dalriada. Although it's also worth saying that there's no evidence that was definitely Diabolos, we just don't have other suspects.

I thought the official line with the Diablo Armament was "It's a different Diablos that got trapped by the Allagans".

The Diablo Armament was a "simulation" of Diabolos created by the Allagans somehow recording his soul's wavelengths from when he was summoned in their era then using that data to transform a dragon into him.

Still, given what we know about how the soul and body share a bond, I feel like it's possible that the voidsent who are summoned through vessels may simply end up having their souls yanked back into their real bodies in the 13th if they "die" on the Source. I'm honestly expecting to see some familiar faces in whatever dungeon we're liable to get in 6.2.

The Mhachi were mentioned as having their strongest magi offer themselves up as vessels for powerful voidsent, though that was in a manner that made them very dead and wasn't "safe" like how reapers utilize Enshroud as that only permits a small portion of a voidsent's essence to cross over, but nonetheless runs the risk of the same outcome as the former method if the wielder is reckless and allows their will to falter.

The RDM questline elaborates on how a line of Mhachi sorcerers made a covenant with a Voidsent through ingesting her blood. This is all more than slightly reminiscent of RPR's abilities, right down to siphoning life essence and the accompanying spell effects.






Aside from the connection itself, the most notable thing about this is that the guy who was supporting Lambard and his proto-RPR research was none other than Zenos himself. So the fact that he shows up as a Reaper in Endwalker should come as no surprise, considering he's obviously been interested in this Voidsent stuff for years already.
