    Can MAC users be reported for playing right now?

    One of my friends uses a MAC to play part of the time, and because Catalina OS does not natively supports xIv and SE has not addressed the issue directly, all MAC players are being forced to use a 3rd Party app to log in and play. Can stating in-game that they play on MAC be used to report them for using 3rd party tools?

    There's a MAC logo at the bottom of this screen, so I'd say no.

    Very very doubtful. Like betting odds level of doubtful. Not that it might not be a violation, but that anything would actually happen. As the person before me stated, the game actually does support MAC... or it's supposed to. Utilizing a 3rd party program to get around login issues is almost guaranteed to be so low on the priority list that it might as well not even exist.

    That said, this very much reminds me of a self own type of moment lol. Akin to what you would expect some people to do after they committed a crime, but wanted to make sure they were in the clear by asking if what they did to cover it up was good enough lol. Obviously not the same thing, but comes off as that when I read it given the climate of the community today.

    Yes, you can report us - if you know we are using a Mac and the launcher in question at any particular time.

    (And notwithstanding the incredible loss of face SE would suffer in the gaming press, I also think the very strong trade practice laws in some countries would cause SE to take a rather large financial hit for any action they took on this one. Game's very broken unless you run the Apple equivalent of Windows 95)

    The four people playing FFXIV on Mac are already suffering by using MacOS. No need to ban them.

    I think anything that is running on your computer, that keeps everything working is probably fine. It's not like the devs actually said no mac can't play. In fact, there is a mac version. It had a terrible launch, but it improved, and considering that mac is different, nobody expects you not to have to do work arounds. As long as its only to run the software as it is intended, nobody will care.

    It isn't any different than all this 3rd party tool banning stuff that is going on. SE can't detect it. It is when you talk about that it gets you in trouble. In the greater scheme of things, if MAC users are paying their sub, that's good enough. But if you were to, for example, stream your game on twitch and it shows you using a third party tool to login - then you could be banned.

    Oh, and you = your friend, of course.

    I do expect to be able to play without workarounds since I've paid the same amount as any other player and they are STILL SELLING the Mac version... they just don't support it, haven't communicated with us since December and it currently does not even open without workarounds for anyone on the current OS and has not for quite a while. The lack of communication and support for any paying user is completely unacceptable.

    That said, no you can not report all Mac users since not all Mac users are using an alternate loader since it's possible to still force the official launcher to open with either of these workarounds:

    Option 1
    1) Open Terminal
    2) Paste or type in:
    Code:
    cd '/Applications/FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE.app/Contents/SharedSupport/finalfantasyxiv' && bin/wine --bottle default --enable-alt-loader macdrv --wait-children --workdir 'C:/Program Files (x86)/SquareEnix/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/boot' ffxivboot64.exe
    3) Hit return and the official launcher now opens. Enjoy... until you realise this would have to be done EVERY time you want to open the official launcher.

    Option 2
    To make this less tedious, the above code snippet can be exported as an app so you don't need to open terminal each time just to play. This opens the official launcher, so therefore should not be against any rules.

    1) Open Script Editor
    2) Paste in the following:
    Code:
    do shell script "cd '/Applications/FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE.app/Contents/SharedSupport/finalfantasyxiv' && bin/wine --bottle default --enable-alt-loader macdrv --wait-children --workdir 'C:/Program Files (x86)/SquareEnix/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/boot' ffxivboot64.exe"
    3) Go to File -> Export
    4) Choose: File Format: Application
    5) Save it where you'd like (Applications folder works)
    6) Use that shiny new app to open the official launcher.

    The above code is not mine and can be found here with more explanation exactly what it does as well as in this thread which gives even more info about this issue.

    ^ This! Their current treatment of Mac players would surely not be looked upon favourably, so I doubt they really want this to blow up in the media since we now know just how loud and widespread any negative press tends to spread.

    Also, there is no way of knowing the player you would be reporting is actually using any unofficial launcher or even workaround, they could be willing to take the security risk of using and old, unpatched OS. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    The game does not support any mac user that has an updated OS to monterey. Square has been aware of this issue for like a year and have no ETA on when they will address it yet they keep selling the game to people saying its playable for mac users when its not. I am honestly surprised this has not been on the news or media that they are basically robbing people of their money. I also am surprised they have not been sued yet.
