    I certainly like the idea of unique, powerful materia coming from boss mobs, sure as hell beats doing spiritbond parties over and over and getting nothing but junk materia.

    The one thing I can praise with the current materia system though is it gives crafters a lot more purpose.

    It does but ultimately an MMO is about battle classes. I like that crafters have purpose but not at the over all expense of the game. The materia system IMO should not be the domain of the crafter. Crafters could still enjoy purpose by producing +1 items (perhaps that have an extra materia slot, 3 instead of 2 say) for battle classes to use before more rare weapon and armor drops are attained from HNMs, etc.
