    No economy is ruined for ever, all economies adjust, that is the nature of an economy.

    Making the materia system like FFVII, where it is luck-free and based on choosing a strategy of what you want equipped would be wonderful.

    I think it's been mentioned in many threads (and agreed upon by me in all of them): Yes, please. Just take the materia system from FFVII, and use it here.

    Drop the whole random destruction of items.
    Drop the 'optimization based on gil and time sink' in favour of 'optimization based on strategy'

    Here Here! Please do away with the current system. It's only real purpose is to give crafters a reason to make crap. There's nothing fun or interesting about it's current implementation. Changing it to a FFVII style system would be amazing and that is exactly what I was hoping for when they first mentioned the word materia in regards to this game.

    Please just streamline it so all materia are one stat per level, and add materia that does things like boost abilities and drop cooldowns.

    100% agree with OP and many other posters, particularly:

    1.) Unique materia akin to FFVII that adds new abilities, spells, etc.
    2.) HQ synths that would add an extra slot or so to the gear
    3.) Elemental resist materia that's actually worth a damn and would make a difference when fighting in a certain area, vs. a certain nm, etc.
    4.) Being able to add/remove materia freely, which would remove the senseless RNG system from melding that's currently in place - but perhaps make it so you still need a crafter at a certain level to add/remove materia from the item
    5.) Perhaps allow crafted gear to only max out at 3 materia slots, while dropped/raid gear will have 4-5 slots

    economies adjusting is bullshit, thats obvious, but if that happens the way things are now where we get lots of materials all the time to craft, all crafted itens would have a much lower value, because market will be flooded by them, since they cant be destroyed. Crafting will be useless and at the same time making everyone that has a lot of gil incredibly rich.

    if you want an easy game where you can get almost all the best stuff just by doing the regular things you usually do, play WoW. FF will always have some kind of grind.

    I just cant imagine this game being a crafter with 2-3k active players and no way to take the crafted itens out of the market.
    It worked somehow in FFXI because most of the materials were hard to get and getting HQs was pretty much a lot of luck, also you failed synths and the game had much more ppl playing.

    To change to something like described i think materia would need to be somehow spent (by time/uses/times socked), materia also need to be made from gear exactly the way it is now. But i really think a system like this would be worst than the one now.

    I would like to see unique, very powerful materia drop from boss mobs. I'm fine with the system as is, but would like to see something that could be found out in the world.

    Just a thought.

    I just wanted to come in here and say this whole thread is awesome and the OP is awesome. When I heard of a Materia system being added to FFXIV, I too thought of it being FFVII all the way.

    The system we have right now is just...uninspired. As are hamlets and raids.

    Please continue with your ideas


    (I have little hopes of it ever being implemented this way but if SE were to consider....oh man. WIN.)
